Howdy!

Fairly self-explanatory. I'm trying to figure out the "average real world" price differential between a TC40 and TC45. I'm going to go chat with my NH dealer this next week, and I'd like to have a ballpark figure in mind on the price difference between similarily equipped TC40 and TC45 tractors [they will be "D" models, possibly with SS]. Judging from that MN State contract site, the list price between the two seems to be above $2,000.00. That seems like a fairly steep upgrade price for 5HP gain. Anybody got any thoughts to share?

Best Regards,
Jay

I recently purchased a TC40 and it seemed that I could get a better incentives versus the TC35 and TC45 at least that time (March). I don't have the exact cost difference anymore, but my recollection is that the difference was about the same as you were quoted.

From 4 different dealers, I got a difference of 1600, 1755, 1800, and 2000 dollars.

Keep in mind: TC45D can never have a midPTO.

Also, I had my TC40D dyno'd and it had 38 PTO horsepower, which is .2hp MORE than the spec sheet claims for the TC45D. I have never run out of HP - just traction. I guess just make sure you need the extra 5hp.

Diesel_Jay: The engine in the TC45 is the same as the old 2120 series and has been in production since the mid-1980s. The TC40 uses the engine from the old 1920 series which has been around almost as long. If you are going with a hydro you might want to consider the extra bucks for the slightly larger (135 cubic inches) TC45, but for the geared the 2 liter TC40 should be adequate. Either engine should give good service. The price difference of around $1.5k that others have mentioned is what I got when I was shopping. Where are you in Missouri? if you are in east central MO, you might try Mordt in Troy - they are good folks and I endorse them. Take care and good luck. JEH

Thanx for the responses. I think a rough number of $1.5K between the two seems like a reasonable differential.

Due to extremely varied terrain, and some tight spots, I will be going with the "D" hydro models. If I had the room, I'd be running a geared TN.

I currently have a TC29D that is just way too small for alot of the jobs. Having done that once, and wavering between the TC29 and TC33, I think I've convinced myself to always buy the most HP I can have in a particular chassis size. That's why I'm leaning towards the 45. I will never have a use for the mid-PTO, so I'm not worried about that, but I appreciate the reminder.

Thanx & Best Regards,
Jay

Jay, I just can't see where 5 hp could be worth $1,500. If you had two engines sitting on pallets, would you pay that much more for the 5 hp? I suspect you will have to haggle some, but surely you can get a dealer to come down to $1,000 differential or less. I love my TC45D's power, but I don't think it's worth $1,500 more than a TC40D.

Cost wise the tc45 is out of wack it is about 1500 more dealer cost. no good reason for it.

Jim:

That's a good point. However, having used my TC29 and knowing that a '33 would have made things a bit easier when the going got tough, it's hard not to buy the most HP I can for a particular chassis. But, as you note, it is an expensive 5HP. This same sort of differential exists between the TN65 and T70. The addition of the Turbo on the TN70 really jacks up the price. In this case, the 45 has 10% more displacement and about 13% more rated HP than the 40. Hmm...

Spencer, you're entirely correct. What's interesting is that my dealer doesn't always seem to price the differentials between the models very evenly. On popular models, the difference is cheap, even when MSRP is pretty high. He has quite a few newly-delivered 40 and 45's on the lot right now, and only one 35. I'm hoping that he's trying to make the larger models a bit more attractive and that the price difference won't be so large. We'll see...

Thanx,
Jay

I never really priced a TC40D when I bought my tractor, but with the 16LA loader and one remote, my 45D came to $21,900. I just wanted the biggest hydro NH tractor I could get and that was the TC45D. It sounds like that's what you want too. I'm sure I got a good deal, but maybe you should just price the tractor you want and go for it. I guess comparison is a lot like second-guessing. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think NH just charges a premium for the "biggest" Boomer. Its like paying a premium for a GMC instead of a Chevrolet. ...but then on the other hand, it might be "macho" tax. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
