No tractor is FWD, it's FWA (front wheel assist).
Yes you need to open the "FWD" axle to pull the pinion. I believe there are 2 inner bearings & 1 outer seal... but you may be correct that there is 1 inner & 1 outer.so I would need to crack the axle in half anyway to pull the pinion out from inside the housing
Yes pretty sure you can remove it as a complete unit...I definietly dont want anything to do with disassembling those final reduction gears, but it is not clear whether I can simply remove the entire assembly which is only bolted to axle housing with 4 bolts.
