TC40A Front Axle and FWD questions

@billybonds -

so I would need to crack the axle in half anyway to pull the pinion out from inside the housing
Yes you need to open the "FWD" axle to pull the pinion. I believe there are 2 inner bearings & 1 outer seal... but you may be correct that there is 1 inner & 1 outer.

I definietly dont want anything to do with disassembling those final reduction gears, but it is not clear whether I can simply remove the entire assembly which is only bolted to axle housing with 4 bolts.
Yes pretty sure you can remove it as a complete unit...

Besides Messick's mentioned prior... you can also try Partspring I've had good luck with both.

dropped the axle and cracked it in half. The drive pinion inner bearing was gone, the cage was completely shredded. Very minor chipping to very outer edges of the ring gear, probably not enough to worry about. Drive pinion took a little more wear, but still not enough to NEED to replace it. All the bearing in the differential assembly seems perfectly fine. I'll call Messicks in the morning and order new bearings and seals for the drive pinion, and maybe a pinion as well as long as the price isnt totally offensive.
