I was quoted a price of $17,000 for the tractor with foldable ROPS and R4 tires (loaded). Total price including 16LA loader with quick attach is $21,400. Is this a fair price? Thanks.

For a new tractor, that sounds like a decent price, especially with the QA loader. Just negotiate for all the service you can get thrown in if you plan on using the same dealer for service.

Thanks Jim. I've been looking at various makes and models. Seems like these tractors use a lot of plastic vs others that I've looked at. Does it hold up like the older style tractors?

Most of the "plastic" on the TC40 is fiberglass. At least that's what the hood and fenders are. I actually prefer this over metal because I never have to worry about touchup to prevent rust. A scratch is a scratch is a scratch. It never gets worse. I also have found the panels to be plenty strong and they weather well. My 2001 tractor has sat outside all it's life and there is no fading of the paint on the fiberglass. I can't say the same for the paint on the metal loader. It has faded some.

I recently purchased 17 acres in which I am building a home. The property is already cleared pasture and fenced with a few trees. I plan on letting a neighbor keep a few cows on my property to keep the grass down until I am out of the Navy in a few years. Anyhow I would expect to build and maintain about 600ft of gravel driveway and mow ~ 5 acres around my house. I imagine I will probably do a little landscaping. My wife wants a LARGE garden so I imagine I will be doing some tilling. Also, my property is relatively flat. I expect I may need to move hay bales around when I get my own cattle. I have been looking hard at 2wd JD 5103 and 5105 series. Will this tractor (TC40A) do what I have descibed or do I need to look bigger? Thanks again.

I think the TC40A with MFWD will be a lot better choice for the chores you described. I would not put a loader on a 2wd tractor the size of the TC40 or the JDs. If you get a round bale out on a bale spear, you will easily handle it with MFWD. With 2WD, you would have to have lots and lots of ballast. I handle round bales with my TC45D and it does them just fine. There's nothing wrong with the JDs you mentioned either except for 2wd.

How long until the big day when you retire? I was in Va Beach and Norfolk last June (on my honeymoon /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) showing my new bride the east coast. We went across the Bay Bridge-Tunnel and I was surprised at how much farmland was available on Virginia's eastern shore.

I've got a little less than 3yrs to go. I just got shore duty after being in Ingleside TX for the last 16mths as a geobachelor so I'll have a little more time to be a "gentleman farmer". Land in Hampton Roads area is being snapped up quick for development. Peanut farmers took a big hit over the past couple years.

No, Nansemond Tractor in Suffolk. They are willing to fill the tires, free pick up and delivery during warrantee, plus a few other goodies. Stevenson salesman would not provide any of this...

Hz,

They are treating me the same way. No offer of 50 hour, no break
on a boxblade or any other implements or add ons. Guess I'm
gonna ride over to Suffolk. Who's your contact? Thanks in advance.
