Dear All,

To anyone who reads this post i am having a **** of a time trying to get my tractors HST going. I had a split in the black plastic joiner that connects 3 hydraulic pipes and resides just near the hydraulic manifold block/diverter valve. Though because i live in australia i've been unable to get a replacement for the past 6 weeks. SO i used some glue to fix the split which seems to be holding. trouble is now the HST wont engage. I've replaced the HST oil filter and the hydraulic oil filter, and had a little sucess ie the tractor did a 50 meter circle before stopping again. I've been told by the local NH dealer that the HST is 'bullet proof' so taking his word as gospel there must be something else that is preventing the transmission from working. Any ideas or advice is much appreciated.

thanks

It is more than likely a suction line that is broken or you would have oil every where. It sounds like an air leak into the line. Just because it doesn't leak oil doesn't mean that it is not sucking air. If it is sucking air, that could cause your problem.

Just like Jerry says, more than likely you have air in the hydraulic system. On my small ACCO Allis, I replaced my hydraulic oil & everything seemed fine at first. Then approximately 10 minutes after the next time I used it(probably much less, can't remember) Tractor would go no further. Was really weird. I thought something was really screwed up. All it ended up being was that I did not use the proper procedure of bleeding the air out of the hydraulics when I replaced the oil. SO......more than likely, when you had that (hose split ?,) you introduced air into the system. At least it's something to consider.

Justin, I'm attaching a drawing of the entire HST plumbing. If I understand your problem, it's a broke "T" on the right side of the transmission housing. It's shown here as part of the larger yellow line. If so, that's the suction line to your HST charge pump and also the input to the engine driven hydraulic pump. It is not a pressure line.

I'd agree with Jerry that your problem is a small leak and air getting into the pump. If so, you might see some foam on your reservoir dipstick. I don't think I'd ever try to glue such a line because the hydraulic oil is like a penetrating oil. The glue will probably fail after a short time. Although it's a long wait, if you can't get that part welded up, I'd recommend just waiting on the repair part to get to you.

Sorry I don't have a better solution. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks Guys, i cant tell you enough how greatful i am for the advice and the schematic. The dipstick was showing bubles, we had the tee section welded up properly and the tractor went straight away. I have a small mango farm with 1000 kensington pride trees and desperately needed the tractor. Thanks again i am top of the moon. Have a great new year

best wishes

The usual fee for TBN help/advice is pictures. We need to see what 1000 Mango tree look like with a nice TC40D sitting in the middle.

Very nice photos, Justin. I'm envious of your R1 tires on your tractor. If I had it to do again, I'd get ag instead of industrial R4s on my tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
