I have a tc40d with a 16la loader. The rabbit turtle switch quit working on the fender and joystick. The fender switch isn't lighting up in either position. If I move the switch on the fender or joystick you can hear the solenoids clicking but tractor remains in turtle speed. I know there is alot of info on this site about this topic but I couldn't find anything on this exact problem. Sorry if its on here and I missed it. Thanks in advance for the help.

Mine went out on the job and it turned out to be the fuse.

Edited to add: I just noticed that you said the solenoids were clicking. Sounds like it has power then. I don't remember that sound when mine went out.

Jinman...where are you?

Andrew, if the fender switch is not lighting in either position, I would check fuse #5. The clicking you hear may be internal to the switch. I suppose the "Hi-shift" relay could be loose in it's connection or it's contacts could be burned. That's the only thing that would keep either the rabbit or turtle light on the fender switch from working (unless the switch also has a problem). I would check fuse #5 first and then use the diagrams in the link to troubleshoot your system.

Link to Rabbit/Turtle simplified operational diagrams.

RDrancher: I'm a little slow this morning since my oldest grandson's wife just went into labor. I'm on pins and needles waiting for news of my first great-grandchild's birth.:D

EDIT: Added diagram of relay locations under left cowling (under steering wheel). You will have to remove the left cowling and then look at the two relays marked 1 & 2 in this diagram. Also, look under your left operator's platform (behind the step) and see if there is a wire loose going to the range shift solenoid.

Very similar problem on my TD45 DA + Injector pump has also quit. By passing the key switch with a jumper has the injector working.

But have not had any luck finding the correct wire for the rabbit switch to try by passing the key switch.

All fuses have been checked several times and are good. It seems that the key switch is the problem. But??? Hate to replace the key switch if its not the problem.

Rabbit turtle quit several months ago, then started working again. Recently quit again. Injector never came back and still had to work off the by pass.

Manual is really confusing on these issues.

Thanks for the info. I'm heading to my shop now to check all these things. I'll post what I found in a little while.

WhoooHoooo!!! I'm back up and running! Thanks for the input. Jinman you were dead on with the #1 relay. It had a bit of corrosion, cleaned it up, put some dielectric grease on the terminals and away I went. Two winters ago I had to use this tractor to load salt trucks, I have had corrosion problems ever since. Thanks again for all the help. Jinman, enjoy your new grandchild!

Congratulations! Good troubleshooting. I gave you the tools, but you did all the hard work. I'm glad you were able to get that cowling off without too much trouble.

My great-grandson, Hudson, was born by c-section this afternoon. Mom and baby are doing fine. I'm still waiting for stats, but he looks pretty plump in the photos. Color me proud.:D
