TC40D Rear End repair

I was kind of curious; what is tangling behind the bull gear below the bearing in your picture of the axle housing? It almost looks like a bearing cage.

Unfortunately it doesn’t make sense for the symptoms.

Kharman, how much does that axle assembly weigh? Did you pull it off by hand or did you have to have a jack/dolley under it?

The axel housing assembly is probably close to 200 pounds, maybe a bit more. Which would make it hard to gently lower to the floor once broke loose and harder yet to get back into place.

I have a Hydraulic Elevating Cart that I bought a few years back for messing with heavy fireplace inserts Vestil Hydraulic Elevating Cart Manual Power, Single Scissor, 1000-Lb. Capacity, 19 3/4in. x 32in. Platform, Model# CART-1000-TS | Hydraulic Lift Tables + Carts | Northern Tool + Equipment which came in real handy for getting the axel housing back up and lined up. I do not think I could have done it manually even with burly helper. I imaging an engine hoist would work well too but I think it would take a crew of three to get it back on without some mechanical assistance.
