I'm re-posting this w/ mods from orig. on Gen. forums Owning/operating on advice to get more bites. I'd like to hear more of what Remote Control Valve/s can do w/ attachments on soon to be my 40D. Just learned thru DocHEb, jinman, AndyMA and Larry_Van_Horn about: Hydraulic Top Link as in tilting rotary cutter to cut inclines, angle and tilt on rear blade, and option of running hose to Quick Attach FEL to use skid steer type attachments compatible/limited by my gpm volume. Anybody employing these or other remote valve operant devices?
Thru Doc I found amazing ifo at Minnesota DOT re/ options and $ but there are two (2) diff valves: 1) Single Spool Rear Remote as One valve @ $253, Two or Three valves for add. $213 ea. or 2) one Single Lever Double Spool, Double Acting w/ 4 couplers w/ plumbing + hdwr, 2 speed HST switch @ $670 all prices dealer installed. Huh?
Also; anybody get the Draft Control Kit @ ~ $560? What specifically do you use it for. Yes I read the Manual, that's where I get these questions and why I want these options.

Hmmm, Draft control...with my limited knowledge, I'd say only if you are going to mainly do heavy tillage ( plowing ).

As for remote hydraulics...I had one valve installed when I bought the unit. It only added like $ 200 and adding the second and third should be a bit easier now ?

You can use it to add power angle to a blade or rake....
Hydro dump on a trailer....
Just to say you have one ....

The ~$670 valves are "joystick controls" used for front end loaders (FEL), one version for the TC40 (ref #719348016), and another version (ref #719339026, with the two speed/turtle-rabbit HST switch) for the TC40D. These two valves have nothing to do with the rear remotes.

The rear remotes are $253 for the first, and $200 each for the second and third. These are list prices from New Holland, and are a dealer installed option.

Every time I think about draft, position and float control, I think of the definition from Mark Vagle in a prior thread:

( Some other member could give you a better technical description but I’ll take a shot at the short version.

Draft Control: is normally used for ground engaging equipment like a plow. It will sense the resistance being applied to the implement and raise it if the resistance becomes more than you have the draft control set for. This allows the tractor to continue its forward momentum without losing traction. Some compact tractors have draft control but it is mostly seen on larger tractors.

Position Control: allows you to lower the 3pt hitch to the same height it was previously at. An example would be using a tiller and you are using your Position Control set on #3 to achieve a desired depth. At the end of a pass you lift the tiller and turn around for another pass. By lowering your Position Control lever to #3, you will be at the same depth as the first pass.

Float: lets a loader or 3pt hitch move up and down with the contour of the ground. Almost all 3pt hitches do not have down force and will always float up with the contour of the ground. A loader does have down pressure but most have an additional setting to let the loader float. This is useful when driving backwards with the bucket down to smooth loose materials on the surface.

Hopes this helps understand some of the terms. You may also want to do a search on the forum and read some of the other discussion we have had about these terms.

Just yesterday I was at my NH dealer and right inside the door he had a 3-point log splitter. Last year I looked at a small hydraulic post driver. Both these implements would be driven off a rear remote valve.

Thank's again Doc. I'm wondering if the two NH dealers who priced me Rear Remotes at $700 thought I was a tourist? If so, I've allready saved the price of admision here (bought 'Buyers Guides Tractor + FEL) x 10. Yep, I'm getting one rear remote to start so I can at least work a top link tilt as on Rotary Cutter. I'm still worried I might miss the bus on FEL QA attachments that want hydraulics to the front. My 40D's in the dealers shop right now "getting ready" and will be done "soon" so I'm champing at the bucket and doing a surprise visit today to see which corner it's sitting in.
I feel as tho I've got a team of experts in my corner!

I think you will always come up with a use for at least 1 rear hyd remote. It's a really good option to have. There are so very many implements out there that use a hydraulic cylinder to make something move, tilt, raise or lower or fold..... There are more & more orbit motors being used to make things spin (altho they often want more hyd flow than a CUT would provide...). I think most people should really consider getting a set of rear remotes. Even if you don't know what you will use it for today, there's a good chance you will run across some uses for it in the next 5 years.

The draft control is only useful if you plan on doing a whole lot of plowing. If you are, you might want to consider a bigger tractor. Once a person gets used to it, it is real helpful for plowing. But if you don't know what it is or why you want it, you will never, ever miss it..... This is an option for people who know they need it. You can plow just fine without it. In all your messages, you've never given us a reason for needing this extra thing.

Go for a rear remote. Save your money on the draft control. JMHO

A prior post by JohnInCa entitled Rear Remote Install showed a nice pictorial of installing rear remotes on a TC29D. This installation is similiar to a TC40D install, and would not be difficult for a moderately proficient do-it-yourselfer. It would be an easy aftermarket addition in the future if you felt the need.

For my tractor I bundled the 3 rear remotes into the initial purchase so I could finance them, and I knew the CFO would expect thorough "needs analysis" for aftermarket purchase in the future. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
