TC40DA bonnet (hood)

On my TC40DA I cannot open the bonnet (hood) without removing the weights. Is this a design fault or an indication of previous damage?

To be fair I haven't checked if the bracket can be moved but from memory I don't think so.

Well I did check and it looks as though I can move the bracket further forward. However, it would then be held by only two bolts either side rather than the four that currently hold it thus making it so much weaker. Having read a thread wherein the poster had the bracket break on him I think I'll just have to put up with it.

If using factory weights the hood will open and clear everything. At least here in North America.

No it doesn't. However, you guys have me wondering now. I must confess that I took it for granted that the weights were the correct ones but now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll take a photo if I can think on.

I found this. Different model of tractor but my weights are similar to these.

Those weights are incorrect for a TC, and have too much material at the upper rear.

Thanks Rick. Is it likely to cause any damage in the long term if I continue to use them?

Depends on whether the engine fails from lack of maintenance due to the level of difficulty in getting the hood open.

That would be my only concern.

No worries about that. I've just spent a King's ransom on oil and filters and ancillary items.
