Just posted on the parts/repairs forum, cross posting here. My first day working with my new-to-me used tractor and I find a way to break the left side headlamp lens. Any ideas on parts sources? I should also be thinking about some sort of brush guard. :ashamed:

Well, that's a $165 mistake for sure. Guard is a bit over $200, but may protect both lights. I love mine. With care, the guard works very well, but brush can still stick through it if turned right.

Does the guard work with a loader mounted? The diagram I found on the NH website was confusing - showed the whole assembly under "without loader" and under "with loader" it just showed mounting brackets with identical part number and appearance to the brackets in the "with loader" diagram.

Yes, he grill guard works perfectly with a loader. The guard is hinged and has a latch. You unlatch the guard and tilt it forward so the hood can raise up. However, in the normal operating position, the loader does not even come close to the guard. The cross member between loader arms is several inches away at all times. It's a very nice guard for less than $225 and well worth it in my opinion.

On some rigs like my Kubota even if you forget and left the guard in open position it would not interfere with loader bucket up and down movement. Jim, Is it the same with TC40?

Jc,

No JC, if not latched, it will lay forward and hit the cross-member torque tube on the loader. It won't do damage, but will flop around rather unceremoniously.:D

Thanks, Pedalstomper! The headlight is $17 cheaper than through my dealer, and the guard doesn't show up on the NH website, just tells me to call my dealer (and I never remember when they're open).

The grill guard on my NH paid for itself on the second day I had the tractor. Was moving several long 4x4's using the bucket (didn't have my forks yet), laying them across the bucket top. Thought I had them leveled out OK, but a couple of them slid back off the bucket and banged right up against the grill. Rookie mistake, but the grill guard saved my bacon. ...and headlights and hood screen.

Wife in a week and half broke the glass lens on both headlights and three bulbs exploded while moving indoor from the rain. I searched the net but find with tax and shipping and bulbs a total of 500 bucks to replace both and no guarantee that they'll last another week. Looked for something to replace it that would work that was price friendly and could be easily replaced. Found an Allis Chalmer 5.5 inch bullet shaped head light with a seal beam to replace the lower light. Rear mount stud goes right in the bulb hole. Added half inch foam tape around it to control vibration movement that could weaken the mount, though is has huge cupped metal washers that come with it. The upper light does not shine straight ahead, it is an area work light. Found a New Holland LED to mount in after some modifications. Had to cut the back out of the hole and had to cut the mounting ears off the new light... JB welded the gaps after covering the light body with the plastic bag it was shipped in. Filled the space with JB and after it set, removed the light from the bag and removed the bag itself. Sanded the area and removed the chrome reflector. spray them flat black and attached the lights with 3 screws.

New Holland parts are certainly a bargain, are they not? That is the one thing that has me considering other brands of tractors, and I do my best to see what their parts prices are like as part of my due diligence..

Bought it at an auction down the road where several parcels of land and a couple of houses were being sold off. This was the last item and the majority of the people left. Tractor had a tree fall on it. Insurance put a new engine, all new plastic fenders and cowling and a whole new 16L front bucket assembly. Had 200 hours on the repairs. Added a 758C backhoe sub frame mounted. It came with half dozen attachments and a dual axle factory trailer. Put 500 hours more on it so far. Did read here and found that the right hyd. fluid makes a big difference in this unit performance. Been using it to dig up around sweet gums and pines and than push them over after digging a 3-4’ deep trench around them. Have done more than 30 so far, got 40-50 more to go
