While giving my TC45D a grease job I noticed the owners manual is not accurate, or am I missing something. Seemed to me the illustration for the grease zerks is for a geared tractor not an HST. In addition, my owners manual indicates that I need to check oil level for a clutch - I didn't see anything that remotely resembled the picture they use.

Is service manual for the TC45D more clearly illustrated an accurate?

Thanks in Advance

John, I just checked my Owners Manual and my TC45D and I have to agree with you that the lubrication chart is in error. I just had my 50hr check done and have not performed the lubrication myself, yet. I notice also that on the lube chart on page 3-2 there is an ref. No. 28 that refers to a "SensiTrack Clutch" and that is also confusing. The "Clutch Housing" check on page 3-3 is a complete mystery to me. Perhaps the title at the top of page 3-3 is a clue. The last thing in the title is "Super Steer" and on page 3-2 it does not say "Super Steer". I think maybe the clutch housing is for Super Steer, but that may not be correct. On page 3-4 in the lubrication fittings bullet list, they refer to "2WD" and to the "Pedal Shaft - Clutch & Brake Pedals" which makes me think they just used generic pages for all manuals instead of specific pages for our "D" models as the cover would lead you to believe.

You've raised some good points and hopefully someone with the Maintenance Manuals will have an answer for both of us, since I'm now just as curious as you are.

You guys are right. The owners manuals are confusing & generic. When I went throught the same thing I decided to check the service manual just to verify everything. The sensitrack is a supersteer thing only, so you won't find any grease fittings in that location nor will you ever have to check/change the oil in the clutch housing. Your best bet is to just take your time & look around very carefully under the tractor for every grease fitting you can find. If it moves there is probably a grease fitting for it.

I know the service manuals are expensive, however I think they are money well spent. They are extremely thorough & even give general concepts or overviews of the hows & whys of how each subsystem on the tractor works. It is pretty insightfull reading if you're into that kind of thing. The fastest & least expensive way to buy them (at least in my case it was) is to use the toll free number & order chart at the back of the owners manual. Overpriced? Maybe. A good investment? Absolutely - wouldn't want to be without one.

I absolutely agree with you Troy about the manuals. I have been "gonna' do it" ever since I bought my tractor, and I just keep forgetting to do it. I figure the money spent on Maintenance Manuals will be repaid many times over in the long run. I even have one on my old Ford Jubilee and it has saved me several times. Good advice!

Don't expect Amazon.com speed. I ordered an operator manual for the TC35 about 20 days ago...no manuals...and better yet, not way that I can discover after a few tries to contact a real person through their manuals web site to find out what the deal is. So far as I can tell, the on-line ordering is a black hole, into which went my credit card info, but out of which comes neither a manual or a response to my inquiry to their main web site contact point.

If anyone has a way to actually evoke a response from NH on-line manuals dept., I will be grateful for the advice.

Don;t be too cocerned about the lrngth of time. I ordered a parts manual in December and have been notified that they are on back-order and i'm still waiting for it. I did receive my service manuals in about four weeks. my service manual is a weapon, as it contains over 1000 pages. (seven books with a total thickness of over 8 inches.

Jim, I don't have "Super Steer" and your observation with those of the others, responding to my post, makes sense. Thanks for taking the time.
