Troy, I spent a good hour under my TC and did just what you spoke about. Got'em all. Funny thing though, I would have thought that there would have been a grease zerk for the fron king pin, but I didn't see any. Thought about taking the little caps off the top, but decided against it. I am going to invest in the service manual. Thanks for the response.

I ordered the full manual at $212 and the paper parts list for $32, plus shipping brought it to $248 and change. Just think, for 100 sets of books, you could buy a TC45D with SuperSteer and several implements. Who says paying attention in English class doesn't pay off?

I'm not sure about the online ordering. The time sounds like the first attempt I made at getting a manual through a dealer. After a week & a half & no answer as to when the manual would be in - (except it could be another couple weeks to a month) - I called the toll free number in my owners manual ( 1-800-635-4913). The full repair manual for the TC35D TC40D & TC45D is number 86618104. They had them in stock & on my doorstep in two days & I only paid $170.00 + $5 shipping for them.

Just a side note: One of the dealers I called gave me the $240 price & said they would have to order it so I just chuckled & said no thank you. (this was after checking the price at the toll free number & another dealer, but before actually ordering.) I am guessing this is to make them some $$ on the deal, however $60 profit on a set of manuals seemed like it should have come with enough lube to change my hydro oil. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif The funny thing is I never had to leave home to get my books & I saved money. When will businesses learn not to always try to screw with customers??? You wouldn't think they would even want to chance giving you the impression that they will gouge when they get the chance. Doesn't do much for building a good customer loyalty relationship. It just forces you to shop around all the time.

I keep checking for gills behind my jawbone, but I haven't grown any yet. Let' s face it. I'm a good "test case" for online ordering. Everyone here knows exactly when I ordered the books and I will let everyone know when I receive them. I've already taken the "hit" on the price /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif, but I've already got my whining out of the way /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif, so now we will see it the delivery time is good or the second part of a double=whammy /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif. Wish me luck.

For all you folks already with the manuals, I've got a question. Over on the left side of the tractor, just below the starter motor is the Hydrostatic filter. Either in the piping coming to the filter, or in the gray head that the filter screws on to, I get a buzzing rattle sometimes. At first I thought it was the starter, but by putting my hand on the head and piping, I can also feel it. It's not always there and usually if just idling for a while, it goes away. Is there something in that head, like some type of diverter valve or ball and spring arraingment that could be rattling. I notice that about 4 lines actually come to that area, so I'm guessing some type of valving must be in there. I drove a 45D at a dealer last week and it made the same sound. Could it be air in the hydro lines? I love my tractor, but this sure sounds cheap and annoying. What do you make of this?

djradz, I have a 45d that has the same rattle. When I was at the dealer, we cranked up a 45 and a 40, they both had the same rattle. I also felt the rattle in the lines.

As far as it being air in the lines,I think the little releif cap by the hyd. dip stick would allow any air to escape over time. I was hoping the 50hr filter change would cure the rattle but it didn't. I'm going on 100hrs and the rattle is still there./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
I've gotten use to the noise now, but it sure would be nice to know what's causing it.

I have to echo the other posts. Mine makes the same noise. It was the first question I asked when they took it off the truck. They all seem to do it. Others on the dealer lot do it too. I don't think the service people seem to even notice it since it is so normal. They have seem have to make an effort to listen for it when you ask - even though to someone else it seems pretty obviouse. I guess since they all seem to do it I am not too worried about it. Don't know what causes it. Some sort of relief or bypass system maybe??? Never wanted to know bad enough to look in the book once I learned it was normal for that class of Boomer. I am sure if it was a problem (other than an irritating noise until you get used to it) someone would know about it considering the number of hours some owners have on there machines. Even the mechanics say these are really pretty bullet proof machines - very few problems compaired to others.

Thanks Troy, Shorty. I guess NH just hasn't gotten quite to the sophistication of some of the other manufacturers in addressing issues like this. I've had to accept too many things on my 40D that are supposted to be "normal". Fogging instrument panel, whining hydro, rust on the bottom of the foot deck, cool running engine, etc. I love the machine otherwise, but I think there's still much room for improvement.

I don't think you should have to accept some of those items on your list. The whining hydro will follow you with any of the brands & I can't believe that if your operator's plaform is loosing paint in more than chips from wear & abuse that they won't fix it under warranty. As to the fogging panel & the cool running engine - I experienced the same problems, however my dealership fixed them. They replaced the dash so I can see the gauges again while the engine is running & installed a valve in the drain / bypass line between the engine & radiator. Now the temp gauge starts moving in the 4 or 5 min. it sits in the garage at a fast idle warming up before I use it. It comes right up to temp. & stays there. I would suggest getting your dealer to make it right for you too. It isn't like you didn't spend enough money & lets face it, there are always more toys as well as parts to sell down the road to a satisfied customer... if not a newer upgraded tractor when the time comes again.

Here's my "Maintenance Manual" report. On Monday, 21 May, I received my mauals by UPS. They are a 3-volume set of manuals and I also got a 3" binder to put them into. The Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC) is a single volume, but can be squeezed into the binder with the others. I am very pleased (from what I have seen so far) with the quality of the manuals. The price is still steep, but I can live with it. The delivery was nothing less than excellent for the $5.00 shipping charge. I would have to rate on-line buying very high. Thanks for steering me in that direction.
