I have a 2002 TC45D with about 600 hrs. The PTO does not completely disengage. I noticed this at about 200 hrs and it has progressively gotten worse. Most implements, mower, chipper, etc. run at almost full speed under no load conditions. I'm guessing it takes about 50 ft-lbs of torque to keep shaft from spinning. I do not see any adjustment on the engagement/disengagement mechanism. Anyone have any advice?

If they are truly freewheeling.. then it is a pto break issue.. if they have some level of driven force.. then i'd be thinking about warped ind clutch discs.. or a leaky hyd valve keeping the ind pto clutch engaged.. in either case.. not real good on the internals..

I'd bet DieselMonk has it right. Your PTO sounds just like the problem there was a recall for. There is a pressure adjustment that can be made, but that is the relief pressure associated with engagement of the PTO rather than disengagement. Your PTO clutch seems to not be releasing when it has zero pressure applied. This is fixed by the recall.

Yes, your right about the "recall". New Holland calls them campaigns. There is a campaign report that goes to the service manager of any NH dealership and as part of dealer standards, and for safety and legal reasons, the dealer MUST complete the campaign.

He is given a list of all the buyers that purchased from his dealership the particular model that was effected by the campaign. They in turn contact the owners and begin the repair process untill all the units are accounted for on the list.

I would certainly contact the dealer and ask them if they missed you on the "recall" list. They would continue to get updates from NH if they did not complete them all, but they could also "state" that the repair was made just to get it off the list. Not that they would do that, because that would be well...just wrong. They ARE paid to complete the campaigns so that should not be an issue.

Give them a call and address it immediately before you sustain additional damage to the tractor.

Thanks,
Larry
