TC45D recalls

I too am curious to how this turns out and if it applies to the 40D. Wondering what Peter's dealer will tell him. I think I'll wait to call mine 'til I hear. I wonder if my paint problem qualifies as a recall?

Dieselpwr,

I too have a TC45D with about 100 hours on it. Called my dealer today and discussed the recall. They told me that they would have my tractor for 2 days to complete the recall work and the addition of the 3 rear remote valves I previously ordered. Ony the transmission is affected - not the hydra pump. Though they have never had to split a TC45D they ensured me that its not a big deal. Told me that they have done several 2100 series tractors and from a tramsmission standpoint they're both pretty similar. All costs are covered by NH including pickup and return delivery. Told them I wanted all new hydra fluid and filters. They told me the NH recall would cover them both. Interesting to note they had already ordered my recall parts and were about to call me. I will inspect and operate tractor, at their location, prior to them returning it to me.

While I don't like having to deal with these kinds of issues, I am pragmatic since these things will come up. My dealer has been great right from the beginning and I have no doubt that they'll do me right..... ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY KNOW WHAT I EXPECT FROM THEM! I have not experienced the problem that caused the recall. They tell me that they recall is mandatory, because some TC45D's have jumped out of gear while loaded and going down hill. This causes a dangerous free-wheeling situation!

All-in-all, I'm okay with the recall. NH seems to be stepping up to bar and taking responsibility. I have read about other manufacturer's, on this site, that have not be as responsive in to customer or safety issues. Besides, I really like my tractor!

Peter

My machine hasn't ever shown any signs of being a problem yet. As a matter of fact I can skid the tires under rapid deceleration, which is part of the reason I am reluctant to have it worked on.

I have called NH & a couple more dealers since my last post. I finally found a dealer that really seams to care & the service manager & his techs are educated. The problem covers the TC35D, TC40D & TC45D. I believe there are 1536 tractors affected by this recall. You can find out if yours is one by calling any NH dealership certified to perform warranty work. They just need your serial # & they can tell you from there. There were a number of gears manufactured to the low end of one tolarance & some were apparently out of spec. slightly. That is the cause of the problem. So any of the tractors that got gears from these lots are getting the modifications done. Even the dealers say that NH is probably replacing more parts than are really needed to solve the problem on the tractors that might be faulty & it is almost overkill; however they understand New Holland's stance that it is better to be safe than sorry with something that could cause a liability problem. My Tractor is being picked up Monday for the operartion.

If you really want to see what is being replaced your dealership should have the pictures & replacement instructions available. The tractor will be split back by the rear axel. New Holland says it should take 12 hours, however the dealer I am having do mine said that they have found it takes a little longer when they do it, however he said they take their time & do it right.

I chose to go with the dealership that treated me best in my phone interviews & when I popped in for a surpise tour of their maint. shop & meeting with the service manager. I am much more comfortable dealing with them than the dealer I bought the machine from. They may not have sold me the machine, but my bet is they will sell me all my maintainance supplies & new accessories & future tractors if they live up to the way they are portraying themselves so far.

I will keep you posted on how well the work was done & any complications.

Thanks Troy,

I called my dealer today too. He said that the TC35/40/45 were affected. He didn't mention anything about serial numbers but I think I'll check back with him. I don't have a lot of hills but I have gone down a few steep ones and never had the slightest problem. I too am reluctant to get this done when everything seems ok. I bought my tractor in July so perhaps it does not have the problem. I'll check with NH and see if my serial number falls in the affected range.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, your post was extremely helpful.

For what ever it's worth, I had ordered mine & it was delivered to my dealership & then me in early July. I hope yours isn't one of the affected ones.

I have never had a problem with my NH shop. I know most of them by their first name and they do not care if I stop in and talk. Whenever I do stop in with a question I just walk in to the shop and talk to the mechanics and they answer any and all questions. When the handle that goes under the seat of my TN-65 broke there was a backorder and I would have had to wait 6 months for a new one instead they took one off another tractor in the lot and fixed it right away. It helps to talk to the mechanics, they might not look the greatest at times but that does not mean they do not know what they are doing.

Well, my selling dealership called back again & wanted to schedule the appointment. After talking to the service manager there I found out that he had never been informed of my earlier complaints (which I made to the person that sold me the machine who is a co-owner of the business) After some research by the service manager it seems that the person who had originally done my machine set up no longer works there. He has promised that the person doing my machine this time is fully qualified & has done 5 of these modifications already. He even volunteered to do it himself if that's what it would take to make me happy & said they would always stand behind their work. I decided to give them one more chance for redemtion since I have delt with this person on one other warranty issue & he did well. More than likely I will be stopping down during & after the operation before they bring the machine back just to satisfy my own curiosities.

Re: TC45D recalls - It Lives

Well it is finally over. I got the tractor back on thursday & it seems that everything works. They did a really nice job. They even did more than expected without being asked!

They also installed a new dash & it seems to have taken care of the fogging that I was experiencing before. (from what I can tell from the short time I ran it since I got it back)

They also fixed the problem with running cool. I think I will do a separte post on that.

My Boomer & I are happy again. :)
