On saturday I looked at a 2310 (TC40 W/ a cab).

27,920 Tractor only
3640 for a 250 TL Loader
2966 for a Rhino TM84 Turbo rear finish mower
3293 for a New Holland rear snowblower
1200 for 2 rear remote valves for blower function

Total with Tax 40,970.00

Does this seam high? Seams expensive.............

Yes, it is way over the top on price. The price of the tractor is about $7000 too much, maybe more. Are you sure that's not a typo on your quote?

Jim,
Unfortunately I'm sure. It seamed a little high. Does it seam like it's 7 grand high even with the factory cab and HST?

Oops! I just looked at your list and didn't notice the cab. Sorry. . .I spoke too soon. Your price looks about right for a cab and all the extras you are getting. I apologize for not seeing the cab and reacting as I did.

For a 6' cutter, the 40DA will be fine. If you were buying a gear tractor instead of HST, then you would get more benefit from the TC45, but with an HST, you'll never know the difference. Now, the N844L engine in the TC45 is a very strong engine that is used in other NH applications and even turbocharged in some of those. It's a strong engine. However, the N844 engine in the TC40 is basically the same engine with a shorter stroke, so it is also a very good engine. You will be happy with either.

Now I viewed this differently when I was researching to buy. For me it only made since to buy the 45 if I wanted the HST transmission, but since I was looking for the geared picking up another 4 PTO hp with the 45 over the 40 didn't make since. The optimum size cutter for either one of these tractors is 6' but with the 40 and HST you are at the very bottom, or below, the standard thiking of needed PTO hp for a 6' cutter.

Now with that all said I run a 7' cutter behind my 40 but the cutter is a lightweight twin spindle design that is only 6' long so the weight is close to the tractor. I cut about 25 acres once a year in the hills of PA and the 40 pulls it with no problems.

Jim, I've always thought the "conventional wisdom" was 5 PTO hp per foot. That's why I say that over 30 PTO hp is plenty. I think you would agree that there are a lot of owners within the Class II size running 5' cutters and have no problems. I would expect any Class III tractor to be able to run a 6' cutter in most situations and a 7' cutter in many. I have no actual first-hand knowledge of that, so your experience with your cutter is a better reference.:)

My statement about the 40 and 45 is based on the HST transmission's relief pressure. There is really no pulling power gain on the 45 to the wheels. The only place on the tractor that gains from the extra hp is the PTO. I think if all buyers are aware of this, it could change the way they think about their purchase and save themselves a few dollars. I don't think dealers are likely to explain this. At least, I know mine did not.

Hey Jim... you got the math correct, guess I was having a brain.fart this morning when I was typing my reply concerning the PTO hp per foot.

Even the power to the wheels on the geared tractor between 40 hp and 45 hp would be hard to notice on this size tractor.

My SQ84T cutter works well this tractor cutting grasses but it is not good for brush. The blade tip speed is slower than a single spindle cutter so to get a good cut you have to keep the blades relatively sharp. Some of my cutting is on some good size hills and tractor hp has not been a problem and neither has the cutter weight. Even though the cutter is probably a little heavier than the 6' single spindle models it is also about 3' shorter than the single spindle.
