Now that John Deere has the 4720 hydro, was wondering if anyone thought whether New Holland would make a hydro for the TC55 in the near future?

Doubt it. The hydros main advantage is while mowing lawns. The TC 55 is designed more for the small farm/ large acreage guy who just wants to run slightly larger equipment. No real need to invest millions to design a hydro for it.

Froggy, I think the TC55 with hydro is unlikely because of the size, pressures, and temperature required to operate with the higher power of the TC55.

The Class III tractors already run at 5000 psi maximum pressure. To keep pressures under control, you could increase the size of the hydraulic motor, but then you have to have a much larger physical space to put it into. You also have to keep it cool and that's no small problem to solve either.

I think the TC55 is larger than any of the JDs you mentioned. I'm not sure about JD, but the hydro transmission on the NH TC35DA has no less power output than the one on the TC40/45DAs. They all have the identical relief pressure, so the 40 and 45 just waste power a lot of the time.

I wish there was actually a hybrid transmission that could provide hydro like controls for low torque applications like mowing and other primary PTO functions. When doing draft work, that transmission would change to gear mode and be driven directly. As long as I'm dreaming, I figure I might as well dream big. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jim,

Anything will be an improvement over the 40 yr. old non-synchronized gear tractor that I have now. Will probably have to settle for the electro-hydraulic shuttle on the TC55 or the hydrostatic on the TC45 when I buy one in two years. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The TC55 is just an updated, higher powered version of the 2120 shich was one of Ford / New Holland's most popular models. I have used my 2120 with hydraulic shuttle for 17 years and don't find it at all hard to use. It is not at all like the mechanical transmissions you may be thinking of.

Andy,

I think my attempt at humor failed.

Doyle, since we are having fun, let me "poke" a little fun at New Holland by asking if you or anyone else has heard of someone buying a TC48? What were they thinking? Would anyone buy the TC48 instead of going up to the TC55 if you wanted a gear tractor? I am really baffled at why NH placed these two model tractors into their lineup. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Okay, end of rant....

Isn't the 48 a non turbo machine? Some buyers might not like a turbo. Increased maint? Shorter life?

Food for thought

Strange as it may sound some customers do not like the hydraulic shuttle shift. So they opt for the manual shuttle of the TC48.

Turbo aside, they can get the manual synchro-shuttle in the TC55, too. For approximately $1,200 - $1,300 more they also get 7 seven more horsepower.

Jim,

Take a look at the pictures in the "New 4x20-series First Impressions" thread in the John Deere forum. The new 4X20 series front end makes the new TC's front end look great!

Any prices on the TC55? I have looked and can't find a build and price section like Deere has. The dealer in this area I'm not very impressed with. Went to the dealership last week and they didn't have one. Didn't have any literature and the salesman pretty much blew me off. I told him I had a 4600 I'd like to trade and he said I'd have to bring it in. I said how about coming over and looking at it or just giving me a ballpark. When I told him it had 2000 hours he said they wouldn't even be interested in trading for it. I said I'd like a cash price on a new one then and he said he'd get back to me. It's thursday and still haven't heard from him.

Do you have a Case dealer nearby? The Case DX55 is pretty much the same thing.

Rough numbers my dealer told me $27,500 with loader. don't know how discounted that is (if at all). Don't know what kind of options (trans etc) either. It was 4X4

You can check here for list prices (you've got to add the tire prices to the base price) MN DOT TC48D & TC55D (pdf)

Thanks Guys. Those prices at Washington look pretty good. How do they compare with what you guys have seen the 55 going for?

About the same and the Case equivalent is within $500-$1,000 to the NH pricing.

My dealer quoted me TC55 ESS with quick attach loader $27,500
The TC55 is the only tractor I would trade my 2120 in for.

Less Money

None of the implements or attachments I use or plan to use would be affected by that small increase in Hp (achieved with turbo aspiration)

The '48 lists a higher capacity hydro pump (dont understand this)

Did I mention it was less money?

Charlie

How many hours have you put on your 48? Have you had any quality control issues pop up yet or is it holding up well? Anything you don't like about the 48? Just curious. Have fun.
