I've been doing some landscaping around my place and I decided to move some of the rocks around and put them where I want them. This is about the largest rock the loader can lift. The grapple itself weighs over 700lbs. I'm glad I've got a heavy box blade.

I dug out bigger rocks than that. Matter effect, I couldn't lift them at all. So I pushed them around in front of me. It amazes me eveytime what I can do with my 55DA. I dug out some tree stumps lately and I made a pic of that and I think I posted it already a little while ago, but here ya go again!!

DieselMonk,

Looks like you got into a muddy mess! Yea the bigger rocks I push or drag too. I'm going to make me some kind of light weight sling some day so I can lift bigger rocks. That grapple is nice for what it's designed to do but it sure is heavy.

I'm with you! A sling mounted right to the QA crossmember would be ideal. When it comes to a really heavy lift, I want my rock bucket to be off and the load to be centered between the FEL arms. If the sling is long enough, as you lift the load, it will shift back towards the front grill too. I'm not wanting to lift anything too high, but it would be nice to be able to set a 1 ton rock onto a trailer at 36" to 40" high. That should be an easy chore for your 18LA.:)

Anyone know what kind of rock that is, with the blowholes in it? Igneous? I don't know much geology, but around here I haven't seen anything like that. It's very satisfying to lift something huge!

Is that an asteroid worth millions? I never seen a rock like that.

This is white limestone. It's all over the place along the Balcones Escarpment in Central Texas. The holes come from water running over or through it a long time ago. Some rocks almost look like sponges cause they have so many holes.

It if was granite, I probably couldn't get it off the ground.
