I am assembling my rebuilt 2305 3 cylinder Yanmar motor and want to verify TDC. I am trying to figure out which cylinder is #1. Is it the one closest to the firewall or radiator?

Thanks,

I believe the yanmar engines have #1 cylinder at the flywheel end of the engine.

Thanks for the response. Thought I would share the rest of my story for the next guy. Found the timing marks on the flywheel (injector side) that shows TDC for all three cylinders. Rotated engine counter clockwise until intake valve closed and exhaust started to open. At that point I noted that the timing mark for the cylinder was at TDC on the flywheel. Did the same procedure for all three cylinders. Fortunately, I had it right. If not, you have to remove timing cover and align marks for Cam Sprocket , Crank Sprocket, and Fuel Pump Sprocket. This procedure will verify Cam and Crank timing...not Fuel Pump.
