Please help!!! I own a bolens G2104 tractor that has the Iseki E3AF1 engine. I had the fuel injector pump rebuilt and now the timing is off. How do you put this engine back in time?

The best solution is a shop manual. Although I have one, I have not timed the Iseki, but most small diesels are similar. If a manual is truly not available, the trick is to find what the injection timing is for your engine: for instance, 25 degrees BTDC (before top dead centre). If you don't know, look for timing marks on the flywheel or front pully. Disconnect your fuel pressure lines from the injection pump, move throttle to full position, pull decompressor (if it has one) and slowly turn the engine over the proper direction by hand until you see fuel moving on cyl one at the pump. Look for a timing inspection window for the flywheel or timing marks on the front pully. Timing mark should align when fuel begins moving. If it doesn't, then you need to time the pump. Either add or remove shims from the pump if it is driven by a internal injection camshaft, (add = 1.5 degrees ******, delete = 1.5 degrees advance) or rotate the pump if driven at the back of the pump. Timing is pretty critical on a small diesel. Think back when you disconnected it, did you remove any shims or how is the pump driven?

There were no shims in place when removed injector pump. there is an inspection port on top of pump gear that has a indicator point and a inspection port that shows a portion of flywheel which you can see the timing mark. Do I mark the timing on the injection pump in between the splines of the gear and align with the indicator at the port on top and bring the timing mark to the inspection port at the flywheel?

I went out and looked at my TU205F and yes, unlike my Kubota, the Iseki does not appear to use a shim pack adjusted pump. My Iseki pump is gear driven from the front. The engine is out of the TU at the moment and I will take a look at the setup tomorrow. I am thinking there will be multiple timing marks on the flywheel corresponding to each cylinder. If that is the case, it will be pretty straight forward. Since yours is a Bolens, is there not a shop manual available?

Went out this morning and took a look at my TU engine. It also is a E3AF1 series. Looking at your front pulley from the injection pump side, you will see an alignment mark on the front of the engine. (Approx middle of the front pulley). Turn the engine around by hand until a corresponding mark on the front pulley lines up with it. The pointer in the injection pump inspection window should now line up with the mark on the drive gear of the pump. I would ensure you are at TDC with no. 1 cyl by confirming you are entering the compression cycle. (Intake cycles, then both valves closed). The pump has three attachment bolts. The bottom bolt anchors the pump, the upper two have elongated bolt holes allowing for timing the pump. Once everything lines up, ensure the timing marks are lining up with fuel feeding the correct cylinder. You can bleed the air out of the fuel system, open throttle wide and with the fuel pressure lines disconnected, watch for fuel advancing at the proper port of the injector pump (compression cycle). With these types of pumps, you can advance or ****** the injector pump by moving it from side to side (ensure all three bolts are slightly loose).

These are just observations from my diesel experience. I have never timed an Iseki. I would highly recommend you purchase a service manual for your tractor as the type of work you are doing is fairly critical to the health of your tractor. Diesels are tough things, but compressions are high with these motors and can be damaging to a an advanced or retarded engine. Hope this has been helpful.

Thanks for your trouble and helping me out here. However, I do have a manual on the way. The injector pump I have has 4 bolts, not sure if same as yours. Thanks for all your help as i know that I will be back to this site again.
