... I really don't like technology anymore. Is anyone with me? (yes I'm aware that it's internet technology that is the vehicle for my complainaing about technology.) I don't like technology anymore becasue technology is my job and has been for the last seven years. blah! How does one get back to a more Agrarian lifestyle and remain able to pay the mortgage, and all of the other bills?

I work in Tech too, sell embedded computers. Love my jobs, work with great folks, but work is highly overrated. :)

Spring is coming, big garden going in soon. Great place to escape the tech monster.

There is appropriate technology and inappropriate technology. Just like behaviour in young-uns. The secret is application of a sharp rap on the knuckles when you see the inappropriate sort. A day in the garden, with a steel hoe on a wooden handle is the result of an awful lot of technology, if you consider how that tool came to be in your hand.

We're human - at our very best it's what we do. We make things of utility. So go forth, into the garden, and celebrate your appropriate technology.

Selling computers, and parts is one thing, But, being responsible for the server management, that make a server function on a daily basis, in a business mission critical, production environment, is a horse of a different color...that I just don't desire anymore. I used to enjoy the challenge, now it's drudgery to me. But am I a bit jadded lately. So I appreciate your comments, and am looking forward to a time when I can be as contented with my employment as you are my friend!

We were absolutely dependent on our tech guys, but no one really seemed to appreciate them and the pay was not what it should be so we had a fairly significant rate of turnover.

I like what technology can do, but would shoot myself if I had to work on it; my hat is off to anyone who does.

Maybe there should be a "I need a change" forum. I see there is another poster with a similar theme going right now. Some of us just get the 7-year itch real bad (career-/lifestyle-wise). I've been there, and thought perhaps it was the industry I was in - it wasn't. I just am not cut out for living 30-40 years in the corporate world. I'm glad I'm out, but the alternative though much better has its good and bad days - they don't call it "work" because it's not.

Maybe it's time for a change. If there is something that you've always wanted to do or if you've got a dream you've been nursing, then why not figure out how to make it happen and take your shot. Otherwise, just listen to what you're telling yourself and make some type of change to take you to the next step. Life is way too short.

Yup, there are many days when i want to sell everything and go live on top of some mountain..... isolated from all people.

but i would need a place to land my helicopter, and a clear site for my microwave internet antenna, and maybe a snow cat for food trips.

Lets face it.... no one wants to go back to the 1920's style of life. It may seem romantic, but it was all just work. Were all too spoiled

It is kind of ironic, but I hate technology!

The irony is that I'm very good with technology, but I just don't like using it.

I spent over 30 years in the high tech arena, and it paid for my retirement. Computer networking was my thing, but now I have to call my kids once and and while to find answers for, to them are fairly simple. Yes in most respects I like it, as I am using it to use this form. I wonder where it is all going, with the F-book, texting with all the kids, and the info that Goggle and so forth are gathering about us.

It seems that we can find out anything about almost anything about our lives, on the Internet anymore. Seem like a lot of loss of Privacy.
