<font color="green"> Has anyone purchased a John Deere Technical Manual on CD?

If so did you find that you can you print a paper copy of the manual from the contents of the CD?

I am particularly interested in verifying this from someone who bought a Technical Manual on CD for a 2210 but would be glad to hear from others as well who bought their CDs for another JD tractor.

At half the cost of the paper manual, $44 versus $88, it seems that by purchasing the CD and printing a paper copy myself, I would spend less than $88 and have the convenience of both the CD and a paper manual.

I could even print out just the pages I needed to take to the shop and if they got dirty or ruined in some way it would be no problem to print more pages.

Mhalla:

I bought mine in paper verson, I did think about the CD verson but being the freak I am I enjoy reading or flipping the pages while something is on tv that won't hold my intrest or while the wife is reading in bed at night.

Yes, you can print the pages off a CD and make a paper copey or throw them in the trash if you get them dirty (sticky, /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) while out working on the tractor!!!!

Can't speak to the John Deere manuals, but I have the Ford CD for our 1999 Ranger PU. I hate it, its hard to follow from one step to the other unless you print out the whole section. I like to sit down and browse, and the CD doesn't lead to doing that. If it was page by page in .pdf it would be find, but its by subject, and you have to keep going back to find the next section.

That seems to be the way to go then.

Wish they had a CD version of the 318 manual. The paper version of that costs $95 vs $75 for the 990 and $40 for the electronic version of the 990.

You must have a printer that has much lower cost supplies than mine. It would cost around $400 in ink plus more hours than I care to imagine to print the technical manual. I don't think I would want that many loose pages either. Of course it would be simple to only print what you needed at the time. I have tried to use soft copy documentation on a laptop but I have always found soft copy documentation much slower to use than hard copy.

On a laser printer you can get about 5000 pages (a case of paper) on a toner cartridge which runs about 70 bucks. Much cheaper than using an ink jet for everything. I have an ink jet also but I only use that for photos.
