That's definitely the way to do it. Gives you the best chance of the tubes staying parallel. :thumbsup:

Some of the higher end welders have adjustable arc length correction that is wonderful for doing the job you just did. It makes it look like you had the tip right at the puddle even though you were an inch away just a point to ponder.

Spatter comes from a dozen different reasons. Your project turned out and the spatter can be dealt with. Looks Solid !
