Teenager broke my tractor, need advice!

Have your son help you with repairing the tractor from start to finish. Not as punishment, but as a learning opportunity. Included him in all trips for parts, cleaning up the shop, and anything else related to the project. If he invests enough of his time in repairing the tractor each time it breaks, he will learn it is better to avoid breaking the tractor. Plus it is a good opportunity to learn/practice some useful skills.

Machines break, the object is to keep it to a minimum.

Since you asked for advice, consider using the back end of the tractor, where the big gears & hitch points are, to pull stuff. Sorry for your pain, but you didn't teach him very well. MikeD74t

Thanks for the info. I realize I didn't give you much to work with. Hopefully I'll be able to get into it in the next day or so.

Who's a good source of parts these days? I've been away from the forum for awhile and have lost touch. I've done business and had very good luck with Jon Depratt and Rick Wallace but I think they're both out of the Kioti game.

As for my son, he'll help; in fact he's a pretty good fabricator, welder and all around wrench, and he enjoys doing that stuff. Now that he's working several jobs and taking college classes he has a much better understanding of the value of taking care of your equipment and can appreciate the financial gains to be had by not spending money on repairs that could have avoided in the first place! When he was younger - not so long ago, I honestly believed that boy could have broken an anvil if given enough time.

You're probably right Mike. How many sons have you raised?

Never has a truer sentance been said - couldn't agree more SixHoe

Following some of the advice already given here (such as pull from the back, and low down) will avoid a repeat performance, but lets remember that these machines are for working and accidents / breakages will happen

Piney Woods Sounds like you have a great son there - maybe he did something silly, but at least he's keen to help you mend it

I'm raising three sons (and a daughter) and I say Amen to that! Thank goodness nobody was hurt. Stuffs replaceable.

Yes the majority of teenagers are very easy on anything you have to work with. The reason being they don't do jack except sit in front of a computer or TV. Grats on having a kid that at least gets out there and tries. If you are not making mistakes or breaking something you aren't doing anything. Hope the fix is simple and cheap.

I'm glad i didnt take my buddies advice.....he felt kids should be treated the same as puppy dogs. Both should be put to sleep at 15 yrs old. But mine made it out alive and all is well :D

Then I wouldn't have a 22 year old sitting in his room shooting all those virtual bad guys..
