In the past 2 mos. I have received many calls about my warranty running out on my vehicle In the past week it's gotten worse 1 cellphone rings 10 min later the other 2hrs later the house phone this week alone I got about 15 calls.
The calls are either blocked out of area or cover just about every geographic area of the US.,they are auto dialed and pre recorded messages, and do not disclose the identity of the caller which they are required to do by law.
Well today was enough and called the FTC and filled a complaint, the person I was talking to from the FTC told me that 99% of the calls are scams and they are coming from offshore ,and thy can show Phony numbers in caller ID and many people have been ripped off already.
SO BE CARFULL THE NUMBER YOU SEE ON YOUR CALLER ID COULD BE SOME OTHER PERSON

"yup, hang on a sec..." lay phone on desk...... wander off for a beer......

If the phone is out of area, or private number, that is the treatment they get.

I too really hate those calls and the one for reducing my credit card interest when I have no credit card debt
Interesting -- article in the paper here says it is a scam with most calls coming across the border from the U.S:( -- probably re-routes through unsecured switches or something) -- anyhow why would you buy warranty from anybody but the manufacturer???

I agree about thost calls and I, too, get the calls to reduce my credit card interest, when, like you, I haven't paid any interest on a credit card in many years. So we just promptly hang up on those.

But as for buying a warranty from someone other than the manufacturer. Even the car dealers, credit unions, etc. sell "after market" warranties that are not from the manufacturer. Some are better than others, but as with any insurance, it's wasted money if you never use it and great to have if you do use it. But in my opinion usually not worth what they cost.

I recently bought an older car, 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, with 41k miles on it from a Ford dealer and they offered me a non-Ford 24 month, 24k mile bumper to bumper warranty for about $1,400. It was about the most complete coverage of any I've seen, but at that price for that length of time . . . no, thanks.

If you want have some fun with the numbers go to the web site WhoCalled.us and plug in the number from your caller ID. You will see info from a lot of different people.

I got 8 calls in one day from these people. I actually got to talk to a person one time, but they would not give the name of the company. How stupid do these people think we are? I don't think anyone would buy something from a company that won't even disclose the name of the company. I filed several complaints with the FTC over these calls. I have decided the next time they call, if I can speak to a human, I am going to make the call so offensive no one at that company will want to talk to me ever again.

Since they frequently called me (notice called), I started having fun. The car warranty people, ask them how long after the coverage starts should you take in the van with 200K miles and a blown head gasket. They go away pretty fast.

Alternativly, keep track of the caller ID numbers and answer with something like "American Asset Collection, this is Dave, may I have your account number?" or answer with their company name.

When I'm in a bad mood, they get questions like "What color underwear are you wearing?" "If you're bothering me, who's making the calls in he77?"

I also got a bunch of these calls, and finally decided to talk to them, I pressed the appropriate number and a live person came on the line and started their speil. I interupted them and asked what company the "warranty" was thru - they immediately hung up.

Got another call a few days later and did the same thing, got another immediate hang up. Haven't been bothered since, and it's been a few months now.
