1981 Bolens G174/Iseki TX 1500F Engine KE75.

It's been getting harder and harder to start, the more I use it. So far I've put about fifteen tanks of diesel through it on a finished mower and 48" rotary mower. The trouble seems to have started about the time I began running the engine at reduced rev's so as not to overrun the gearbox on the rotary mower.

It got harder and harder to start. First it required a boost. Now it won't go. When my mechanically-inclined friend checked the glow plugs, they were o.k. The injectors, though, had a very weak flow. When we boosted it and got it started, it died out as soon as he slowed it down.

He's convinced it's the injector pump.

He cleaned the filter, then bled it. That's when it started, and then quit.

Black smoke comes out when it's trying to start. Battery's new.

Next steps? Anybody know where I can get an injector pump replaced/rebuilt?

I need this tractor for mowing.

Thanks,

Rod Croskery

Dont know if this is going to help you but anyway,

If I am right you have a manual shut-off valve on this tractor.
I would have a look first if that ones not playing up.

The reason is i tend to leave it in the shut position after shutting down the tractor and then later try to start the tractor for several minutes forgetting about the valve..:confused2:

What i have is liberal amounts of black smoke coming out of the exhaust..
black smoke= badly burnt fuel, as you have

Besides the fuelpump is not a spectacular thing nor is the flow from the injectors. remember it should pump about 1 gallon per hour at 2800rpm, thats about 0.00028 gallon per second over all cylinders)

I do know a place which can rebuild your pump but as i am in europe that wont be a big help. Generally any diesel mechanic should know this type of pumps, they are small versions of widespread used pumps in the earlier days.

Put the above address in your browser. This is Len he sells, offers parts and advice on Iseki tractors.

But Ii hope you don't have a tractor with a Japanese injector pump. Most tractors have bosch pumps. Mine had a Japanese pump and I couldn't find anyone locally to work on it.

But Len is your best bet on parts and advice.

I loaded up the Bolens and took it to Feenstra's, a very reputable local farm machinery dealer. The owner immediately suspected the starter as it flexed a bit in his hand while turning over. It has a date painted on it: Nov. 29, 1991. The guy on the counter told me today that Rob had the tractor running, but the starter is now away for a rebuild.

Rob also suggested that shorting the glow plugs across 12v to test them is a bad idea. It usually ruins them. So much for the burnt-fingers method of diesel repair.
