My temp sensor is bad and light stays on even from cold. Has anyone installed a temp gauge? They sell one at Hoyt but I am looking all over for one and wondered if anyone has one and how do you like it?

I mean the one from Hoyt...

Pull the wire from the sender and the light should go out. then ground it to a screw or metal and it should come back on. That will rule out the wireing. When you plug it back in and the light comes on then the sender is bad. I just use the idiot light and on hot days call me old school but I just stick my hand down by the dash and feel the air from the fan blowing back. works for me and I can tell the difference on hot days. And knowing my light is in good working order I'll shut it down if should come on. Been like that since the Mid 70's.

I added gages on my 3810D but I got a small diameter el cheepo (or should I say el chino) 3 gage set at O'Reileys and tee'd it all in.

Its not necessarily a good idea to tee a coolant temp gage but its still a reference and that's the key knowing what is "normal" operation there are no extra holes to use in the block, I still have my idiot lites hooked up too btw.

I looked for some temp gauges today but I didn't know what size and thread the temp sensor was. Does anyone happen to know this info? I couldn't find a nut at the auto parts store that fit on the sensor nice, and I thought maybe it uses pipe thread but the sensor felt loose inside a pipe threaded fitting.

The temp gauge adapter is 15mm/coarse thread. I have one here.

Have I got a deal for you!:D (buyer beware). I bought an expensive street-racer grade temperature gauge and the adapter then never installed them. The gauge is AutoMeter 4337, NAPA 70-1630. I would be happy to sell it, lets say $10 below the best online price you can find then add Priority Mail at cost. I'll take a photo and post it if you (first call) or anyone else is interested in it.

What a deal!!!

Actually my serious advice is just get the light working and rely on it. That is what I decided to do. But if you want to get your new tractor all tricked out - this meter is the only one good enough for it.

Radiator looks rough. I know it leaks a little bit around the top cap and it looks like it has been repaired a few times. I know a good little radiator shop nearby that takes good care of my family, but if they can't fix it and make it look decent I might just have to get a new one. I have seen them for about $250+.

If I were you I would spend the money on a new radiator and original-type sensor, and forget a new gauge and waterpump. The designers knew what they were doing. There's no need to modify it away from the original design.

That's my plan. I just ordered the new sensor and upper and lower radiator hoses. Hopefully in a couple weeks I can order a new radiator.
