Temporary Electric To Shed Questions

I put in two 2" conduits aprox 75', between the house and shop. One for power the other for communications stuff. Seems easier and more permanant to put in condiut than go overhead. Heck you could even run your ext cord through it for now.

Hi...

Tempoary... I agree... extension cord on the ground...

Just mark it where you might plow with the tractor... no issue just running over it... I've done this before and it works OK...

...or... string it overhead... but this is more work and ice buildup or birds/squirrels on it may make it sag... then U have to watch out for catching with the tractor too...

Keep it simple and cheap until you're ready for a permanent solution...

One of the problems with extension cords that are laid on the ground is that the mice like to chew on them..... I assume that it is the mice, but it also might be squirrels or chipmunks. I have used extension cords in the summer months while working on the deck and have left them out on the ground because I wasn't finished working and have found them chewed when I roll them up. These are the orange 12 & 14 gauge cheapies. They also chewed up my expensive 10 gauge extension cord. Now I wind up the good ones and patch the cheap ones.....

I have reevaluated the situation and have decided to install 4-6 four-foot long rebar and run the extension cord off the rebar. It will be off the ground and will be easy to install. Remember all want it for is to power a block heater 12-18 times during the winter IF we get snow. All I need to do is plug the heater in for an hour or two before I start the tractor. Most times the cord will not be plugged in. I just can not justify the cost of installing electric to the shed for the limited use it would have.

Thanks for your comments.

well i am a electrican and i would agree with under ground so you won't have to go throught this year after year.
but if you are just trying to get by thei year and you and only you will be in the area of the said wire i would run it over head with a extenion cord but i wouldnt plug anything elae into it but the heater on the tractor . and i would install a gfci rec to plug the ext. cord into. but like i said i put put it in perment instead of somthing tempory.

I like your byline...... "Fire Sprinklers Save Lives"

How do you pull a wire thru a 75' conduit? The idea of the conduit for future flexibility seems like a great one, but how do you take advantage of it without a really long snake?

use your shop vac and blow a mouse(a plactis bag with a string attached to it or anything else that will build up pressure) and blow a line into the pipe.
then pull thw wire (not romex)into the pipe

Clever! I guess I could use my air compressor and really rocket the mouse through the conduit. But if there were already wires in it, and I wanted to add a wire, that would be more difficult it seems. I guess one solution would be to always pull a string thru with every wire, and leave that string in place for future wire pulls. Is that the trick?

well in pvc the string digs into the bends the best bet would be to use a fish tape or use one of the exsting wires as a pull wire
