Tempur-Pedic king size for about 3 years. $1600 to my door with a platform. Best mattress to date!

( Pete, same for me. I was a guest at a house where they were very excited for me to use the guest room with the Tempur- Pedic brand mattress. It felt good when I first hit it. About 30 minutes later I wanted out. The pillows, the mattress do not appear to be built for me. They love them though. In the morning they were excited to hear my thoughts of the bed. I lied and told them it was fine. Rat... )

You were obviously a diplomat in a previous life, RaT! No sense making someone feel bad after dishing out that sort of $$$

Bird, is your Select Comfort a queen size? The reason I ask is that my brother in law and his wife gave their Select Comfort queen size to my son because they couldn't sleep on it. They said something about it having two different air bladders with a piece of foam separating them. Apparently they say that the air bladders act like a dome and they both roll into the middle and are squished together.

I asked my brother in law if he couldn't just turn down the pressure, and that is when he gave the bed to my son. I guess that means that turning down the pressure didn't work. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I tried it, but just personally couldn't get comfortable after what he told me. My son sleeps fine on it and seems to like it. I did look on the internet and did see where a lot of people had written complaints about this "dome" characteristic. If you do a search, it seems that most of the complaints are about the queen size. I was just wondering what size yours was and if you experienced this problem and got past it by doing something, or maybe yours is a king size.

gsxr, how long did it take for the smell to go away on your Tempur-Pedic? I'd like to have mine back one day if it won't kill me by trying to sleep on it. It's soooo comfortable, but after having those crushing headaches from the mattress, I'm a bit hesitant to rush back to it. Don't tell me you didn't notice the smell!? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Tell me something good! Tell me that the most comfortable mattress I've been on will someday quit "off gassing". /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Did you get the Tempur-Pedic pillows with it? Man, you can hurt someone in a pillow fight with those things!

It only took a few days since we have an alpine ozone with Ionization in the bed room on 24/7. Plus we have a “DuctwoRx” in my forced hot air system. It has germicidal and ionizing UV light and also has photo-catalytic reactions of a specific metals to create Radiant Catalytic Ionization (RCI). It kills mold, germs, bacteria, smells etc. With 3 dogs in the house you would never know it!

These both got rid of the smell really quick. After have a pillow top Sealy (overpriced and sucked) and then a waterbed, then a waterbed but individual tunes inside, the Tempur-Pedic was the best to date. Wife does not feel me move. The best for me is no more back pain. Weird but it works. I had to pillows, king size, but gave them away and bought a Tempur-Pedic medium pillow (like 4.0 inches high). Better for me.

To close whatever happens, do not have it out in the cold. When we got our (in the winter) it took 3-days to soften up. It was like a brick! Also try to move the thing..Like trying to move Gumby.

Yep, Brent, ours is the queen size, model 5000, with the pillow top. We got it while we were still living in the country, so after discussing it on this forum, reviewing their website, and getting their video, I ordered it on the phone and it was delivered by UPS. We got their foundation, too, so altogether it cost me $1,616. Now you described it correctly; two separate air chambers or bladders, separated by a thick piece of foam, but the only way I can imagine a doming effect and rolling to middle would be if it were inflated to a maximum amount and/or not having the pillow top and/or maybe the one you're talking about is one of the cheaper models (3000 or 4000?) that I haven't tried. That's something we've not experienced. When we first got it, I wondered about that foam ridge down the middle and if you really lower the air pressure so you sink down in the bed, you can tell it's there, but we don't go to either extreme on the pressure. I always thought I preferred a very firm mattress, but after experimenting a bit, I have my side set on 55 and find that to be quite comfortable. I'm not sure, but I think my wife has her side on 45, and she probably hasn't touched the control in 6 months. But even when I roll to the middle of the bed, I never even notice that foam separator; maybe just because we've gotten so accustomed to it.

I just sneaked into my son's room, and I don't see a model anywhere. His setting is on "50". I'm certain that this model is the cheapest you can order in the queen sized "Select Comfort" brand. I now assume that most of the complaints must be due to not having the higher quality top. If I run my hand over his mattress and push down a little, I can feel where the two chambers are and where the middle section is.

For a joke, I thought about turning his mattress up all the way, but I figure he would never notice. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

To be honest a $60 dollar airbed from Wal-Mart has given me some of the best sleep ive ever had compared to my expensive bed back home.

Yeah, but I'll bet it's because you went camping with that airbed. You always sleep better, the food tastes better, even the beer tastes better when you're outdoors. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

We have a Tempurpedic queen bed. My wife and I like it a lot. However, we agree it's not a cure all for aches and pains. We agree that if we got another bed, it would be a Tempurpedic bed.

We've slept on it for about 3 yrs now. It does take a little getting used to, tho.

yep bird, we have about the same unit, select comfort , queen size, dual remote control. had it about 7 years now, and we love it. they are a bit pricy though, but really not that much more than a quality conventional matress and spring set.
