Tent Setup for Hunting Season

/ Tent Setup for Hunting Season #21
I guess I don't see the logic in buying a temporary tent only to spend that money again 4-5 years down the road on probably another temporary tent. My dad has a wall tent that he bought in the early 80's for $750, a lot of money at that time. We still use it and it is just as good now as it was new. That is why I always buy quality and buy it once. That is where I would go, but if you want a nylon tent that will be raining down on you from condensation in the morning, that is certainly your choice. Never use a wood stove in a nylon tent, btw.

Make sure the tent fits under the HF canopy. I can stand in my $100 tent, but not under some canopies

I知 looking at spending $350-$500 total. Pretty sure I知 not gonna be able to build a pole barn for that much.

Walmart has an Ozark Trail canvas wall tent 10x12 for $280.

Welcome to Sears.com - Sears
litterally the second thing that popped up whey I googled "low cost shed"

Are you saying 4-5 years is the lifespan for an inexpensive tent?

What I’m saying is I can guarantee I’ll use a tent for the next 3-4 years by myself. What I CAN’T guarantee is whether I’ll use one beyond that. It may be that I have a son who loves hunting and I can take out with me and maybe a wife who would also want to at least camp with us too. If that’s the case, then tents are out completely and I’d be looking at a permanent structure or maybe a camper at that time.

If my son doesn’t take an interest in hunting and it will always be a solo camping experience for me, the after that first tent wears out, I would probably spend the money on a higher quality wall tent instead of buying another cheap tent.

Definitely. The car canopy at HF is 10x20 and is 9ft high. Should be plenty high for any kind of tent.

I recommend the 8 person Cabela's Alaskan Guide tent. Here's a link:
https://www.cabelas.com/product/cam...del-geodesic-person-tent/1571266.uts?slotId=2
It's tall enough to stand inside (6' 8") and very weather proof. I've used one for many years, and can't say enough good things about it. If you tie all the guide lines down, it will withstand a lot of wind and storms. I would not add a canopy over this one since the canopy would be the weak link in a storm. I liked this so much, I bought a 6 man version a few years back to use for shorter camping trips, or while traveling and camping single nights. These aren't cheap, but well worth it when you walk out after a storm and see the shredded tents and canopies all around you while your tent is unscathed. I bought both of mine when they were on sale so I saved quite a bit too.

Ok, you made your point. You want cheap, and cheaper the betters. No fault in that.

I just like to be more comfortable, which promotes enjoyment, I guess.

Yes, 4-5 years is about the lifespan of a nylon tent. The nylon might be ok, but the zippers and mesh will be trashed. I know because I have a few old backpacking tents, expensive too, that are collecting dust because it makes no sense to have new zippers sewn in when I can just buy a new one for about the same price.

Buy a canopy with wall panels and be done..

unless you have wind.

I got one of those, it ended up halfway down the hill and a big scratch down the side of the vehicle that was suposed to be protected.
The anchor lines ripped out of the tent or broke, so it isn't that I just failed to secure it.

I've lived out of tents for weeks at a time....out in the Alaskan bush...

IF I was you, I'd build a 6'x8' "deer blind" out on your property and use it as a tent!! It doesn't have to be fancy in ANY way to beat a tent!

I built one here,

Back in the day, IF I could have had something like THIS, instead of a tent, I would declared it a palace!!

NO more rain worries, NO more sweating, MUCH more secure ect.. ect Just sleeping up off the ground is more than worth it...
