Termite Treatment

I need to know what termite treatment is the best for a house, built on a concrete slab. The outside is built of native rock.

Has anyone ever tried the Sentricon Baiting System?

Sentricon is the way to go.
It is more expensive up front.
There are companies other than Terminix that use Sentricon. Get at least 3 different estimates.

Let me know what you find out. With the same baiting system we have had esitmates range widely in the hundred of dollars.

Always get lots of estimates!

I've only got one bid so far, from 4-Way Inc. The bid was $2,035 plus $462 per year. The house is 3,500 sq ft plus double carport and deck.

Actually Gary,

From what I just saw, the drilling into the slab method, with liquid poison, proved to be more expensive. That I guess depends on the slab (total) area itself.

If it is on a finished floor, you have the added expense of moving carpet and possible replacement if it does not lay down as nice.

A treatment should be good for at least 10 years. Get a bid for the job 1-time. They must have a guarantee of some kind on that as well.

Over the next 10 years you will have shelled out $4620! If they come back in 10 years, then pay $2000 again. Much cheaper way to go.

About 15 years ago, I got my hands on some chlordane and did the treatment myself. This was in Florida and I had a cement slab home. I drilled holes in the garage slab about every foot where the slab met the house and sprayed the chemical in each hole. Then instead of tearing up the inside of the house, I treated the outside by using a small auger on a drill and making holes right next to the house a foot apart and spraying the chemical in each hole as well. This worked great.

I believe chlordane (which I think is still banned) was good for 20 years.

The exterminating company installed the baiting system around my house. They were installed about 6 feet apart around the house. I had trouble again with termites and found that the termites had gone between the traps and went for the house. I guess the house tasted better. Anyway, I would not recommend the traps for the extra cost.

12-18 inches on the stations. Once the bait is taken, they set more stations, only this time with posion. Around the monitored baited station that was active.

That was explained to me by two different companies. And no cost for the additional stations.
