Termites?

as you all know, im in the process of building a 24x30 pole building, using metal siding. I was picking up a few 2x4's lying around beside the building and noticed there were termites all over the 2x4's and they were definately eating away at it! What in heck do you do about the posts that are in the ground and the skirt boards? At the rate they were eating the 2x4 's on the ground, they would have the barn eat up quick..?

Best to study up on them, and learn what to do, or have done.

Are they eating treated wood? I would assume that is what you are using for anything contacting the ground.

Anything in the ground or close to it, e.g., skirtboard, should be PT. It is on my barn.

If they tried, I'm sure they wouldn't live very long.
I'll bet some of the chemicals in pressure treated wood would kill them pretty fast.

Nope but they will build mud tunnels across it to get to the untreated stuff and they can eat a bunch of it in a hurry. They also ate out the center of some of the creosoted posts on my fenceline. That surprised me but I guess the posts weren't treated enough to get it all the way to the middle.

I believe most exterminators use Dursban injected around the building as protection.

yeah i went out and looked around and noticed they were on the untreated stuff but not eating it, the stuff they ate was untreated, now, everything on my building is treated EXCEPT for the trusses, will the things crawl way up there and eat at them or no?
