Sam,

Are you gonna call it the mountain when it's done?

(I'll go back under my rock now... :ashamed: )

We live on the Wild Horse Mountain but haven't seen any wild horses yet. We have not come up with names yet. Some have called it the bunker.

That'll help keep the mice, rat, and rabbit population down. If you see it often, it may be that it has a den nearby. You may have the opportunity to see some bob-kittens.;)

We have recently adjusted our cameras and just began to see many of our wild friends. We hope to see some bob cat kittens.

I got to admit I was thinking these materials were going to be cheaper. I though the vapor barrier was going to be two or three hundred but it was about nine hundred with the tape. The Insulation We purchased extruded polystyrene sheathing today. It was priced at 13.68 for 1"x4'x8' sheet. I got Home Depot to discount 10% down to 11.69 per sheet. He got thirty sheets to cover all floors but the garage. The picture is of the first 48 sheets we will get the rest when they get in more.

Great build and super job covering it with your posts! That last pic looks suspiciously like Ed Walkers on Towson Ave, Fort Smith. Great burgers there!

You are correct. We have been meaning to try them out and we were impressed. Great food!

We got another load of the 3/4" chip because we were shy of getting the fill gravel perfectly level with the footings. We rented the plate vibrator again to get the compaction and flat surface before we covered with the Stego 15MIL vapor barrier. We tried using our laser to get the fill gravel level but it turns out my wife Wendy's suggestion of using a straight 2"x4"x10' works much better. Anyway we worked tirelessly to achieve a flat surface from wall to wall so that when we lay down the 4'x8' sheets of 1" extruded polystyrene there wouldn't be any empty pockets. We are pleased how it is turning out but it moves slowly when you do it all yourself on a part time basis. I guess I can justify using all the premium materials because we aren't spending it on outside labor. I also believe in doing it with some over kill because it will provide a return of investment. I like to dream of the day soon when we move in and although we don't really know when that will be I feel it is getting MUCH closer!

Sam, one day you will have people come to visit and you'll try to explain all this tedious detail and hard work. They won't understand, but everyone in your family will agree. The work must seem endless, but it's good to see your whole family working hard together.

You mean like Walton's mountain? I guess you could call me John Boy. You know what's ironic that show was portrayed during a difficult time and because they stuck with good values and simple living they endured the hard times. Well, kind of like in the show we are preparing to do the same.
