Part of my water management program is to capture as much water as possible in my new ponds. After having a drought 6 of the 7 years we have owed the land the water is precious. The boxblade with T&T made this a quick one hour job. I first tilted the blade to get a line and then used the FEL perpendicular to the line to scoop out the sand then made about a dozen passes utilizing the T&T to sculpture the terrace. First photo is looking downhill.

That looks very nice. Suprised it only took an hour. Looks like several hours of good quality seat time to me. I think you cheated yourself /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Better be careful or the wife will find out it is that easy. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yea, but look at the nice sandy soil he has to work with. We would kill for that soil around here. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Looks like that will work. You're lucky to have some elevation of your land.

I know what you mean about precious water. I'm building a 1.8 acre pond on my 10 acre plot, and I will barely have enough catchment area to keep it filled. To maximize the catchment, I am making my entire 10 acres a huge, shallow pond, emptying entirely into the deeper pond. Once it fills to a certain level, it will overflow into an irrigation canal.

Ironically, we have had too much rain to work on it so far this year.

Surfran, Have-Blue is right, the sand, similar to beach sand is very easy and quick to work with, also I only added only the top 100' of the terrace, the lower part was built by the dozer that dug the pond in the background.

I also put in a ditch on the side on my road so the water would not sit in the road. This was in hard dark soil and took about four hours.
