Terramite TC5 and towable scraper leveler

Good Morning All,

I couldn稚 sleep this morning and so I am off to the Builtmore to continue work on the T5C. Yesterday I removed the gas tank and cleaned it with muriatic acid then replaced the battery, changed the plugs and air filter, greased it and removed and cleaned the carburetor three times. After it sits for a few minutes the CH20 Kohler will try to start but then just crank. I can pour gas into the carburetor and it will run for a second or two. I am convinced my problem is a dirty port in the carburetor and I am losing sleep trying to clean it. I will lick my calf over today and maybe I will have success.

In an earlier post I told you it had 3000 hours on it, yesterday I put my glasses on and it actually only shows 300.9 hours but someone has cut the wire to the hour meter. BTW dex3361 I live in E. KY and only about two hours from Charleston myself.

Here is a picture of my new toy. :)

You are going to love the larger tires in the rear. Mine has them and you can't believe how much of a footprint they make!

That is a nice looking machine and it looks in good shape like it has been sitting.

The king pin in the front end is worn out and someone has welded the nut on. It still works but when I do get around to fixing it I am sure it will be a chore. ron

Don't know how much access you have to the kingpin nut but I once removed a welded on nut from a spindle by cutting thru the weld with a holesaw slightly bigger than the shaft diameter. About 1/4" deep & the nut moved. Turned out the shaft was good, nut had been stripped then welded. Probably was a "hay's dry & rain's coming" kind of fix. Just needed a little filing & a new nut. They certainly have a lot of steel plate in them. I think diesels have advantage over gas inthese machines and the 4 wheel drive is also a big plus. My hydro does not have the speed range of a multispeed gear box.

Cutting through the weld with a hole saw? What a great idea, Mike. Although my king pin is not in immediate danger of breaking, someday soon I will have to fix it and I have worried myself wondering how I was going to do the job. I think you have just answered my problem. Thanks!

Thought I would bring you good people up to speed on my Terramite education. The short version is, 的 LOVE IT!

After spending Saturday removing and cleaning carburetor three times and two more times Sunday morning I got it running. It turns out there is a wire attached to a solenoid that is attached to the carburetor. A friend told me this was an anti-backfiring device and did not need to be connected in order to run. Wrong! This device maybe an anti-backfiring device but it also cuts the gas off inside the carburetor. I connected the wire and vroom, vroom! I was a very happy man.

I took one of the back tires to a friend who had a (I forget what it is called) a tank that shot enough air fast enough into the tire to seal the beads. We fixed a couple of holes and soon I was moving dirt.

I have this to say. Someone said it was underpowered and I agree, but then again I haven稚 changed the hydraulic oil (motor oil) and filter yet. I think it is underpowered so you won稚 break so many parts. If one wants power get a bigger machine. I like the way this thing is built. Easy to get on and off of and plenty of room in the driver痴 seat but a little cramped using the backhoe. And yes it does sing you a song when you are moving, but WOW! That hydrostatic drive and end loader attachment were meant for each other. It is a dream to clean out ditch lines. Which I did and now we have big mud?.yuck, yuck.

:confused:Question: How do you check how much gas is in the tank?

Checking the gas is as basic as it gets. You open the cover and look down in the strainer. If you don't see gas, you add more until it comes up in the strainer. I have the 20 hp kohler on mine, and it burns quite a bit of gas in operation compared to my diesel tractor that just sips diesel. In a rental fleet, they don't care because the customer is buying the gas.

Reminds me of a story. Guy I knew in high school wanted to check the gas in his mini bike after dark. So he used a cigarette lighter to see down in the tank and naturally got a fire to show for it, but somehow didn't hurt himself too badly.

2manyrocks, I just have to chuckle every time I read your name. It reminds me of the early 70痴 when as a boy and we established a new garden?????I knew your name long before I knew you.

Just after I pressed send on that last message I thought I didn稚 give them enough information. As I was fixing the tractor I didn稚 have enough gas to fill it up, but wanted to check the level before I left the building to try it out. Using farm boy common since I cleaned a short stick and proceeded to stick it into the tank, it was stopped at the top by the strainer. I guess what you said makes the most since but one could only tell if the tank was near the full mark or the depth of the screen?
