I test drove a new JD 5083e limited today

I've been trying to decide between a new 4720 or 5083e limited........I'll have the numbers together in a couple of days, but after driving the big one; I think that is the way I'm leaning. I have been truly spoiled with the e-hydro on my 3320, but the power-reverser on the big one worked very smooth.

Beavis - Not knowing what you plan to use the tractor for I can tell you that the PowrReverser on my 5325 has been flawless for 4 years and I find that I can quickly move forward and backward.....Gary

i came close to buying the 4720. A lot of nice features. But I'm glad i found this size machine for the price. I actually paid less than a 4720 or Boomer 60hp( dealer had it on consignment, owner had to liquidate his equipment in a hurry). The Tn75 I have has a mechanical shuttle, which works very well. And I have a heavier machine. If you can do it, the 5083 is a nice machine for the extra $$$'s. If you plan on trailering it around, it'll be quite a bit more machine to haul. Bigger trailer, etc. Good Luck with your decision.

I've never had an e-hydro, but I can tell you that with my 5101E, I get around fine. The power reverser is smooth and I'd definitely buy it again. Great tractor and a wonderful cab. The 5083 would be a great choice.

We just had the same choice to make. Layout in the 4's is a little better I think but the 5083 was $2500 less. In the end we decided the 4720 was too small for what we needed and the 5083 was cheaper. We use ours on the beach as well which can be a bit hairy at times, so the bigger machine tends to be more stable. Our's won't be in until April so........Good Luck.
