Texas feral pig extermination "hunt"

My BIL has heard stories about people turning domestic pigs loose to "improve" the pig hunting, if true would be a very good reason for the wild pig population to rise.

It wasn't that many years ago that farmers were turning them loose on purpose to have hog hunts because they made more money then when the price of pork was low.

We have large herds of them here in NE Texas. A while back the USDA was shooting them from choppers in my area. At times they had as many as three in the air at one time. One of the pilots said there was a herd of one hundred or more across from me.
The damage they do has to be seen to be believed. They are also a very dangerous animal to be in close contact with.

As to wild hogs being good to eat........... They are quite tasty. In the cool months, wild hogs keep my smoker busy.:D

I just shot this feral hog in my backyard with one shot @ 146 yards this past weekend:

Then, while I went in to retrieve my camera, a coyote was sniffing the freshly killed carcass so he joined the party with another shot.... :D

It is all Ham on the grill.

Here is the lower jaw of the huge boar I shot three weeks ago, he was a kissin' cousin of Monster Boar #2 who bit the dust this past weekend....

Skypup, you ought to place a tape measure across the points of those "tushies" and take another pic. What's the "outside spread" of the points? I'm going to guess 11-12" considering those are 2x6's on that table top.

I bet the coyotes ate good for the next 2 weeks.
Helicopters are about the best at quick eradication.

Do you recon there might be a Coyote population explosion over the next few years with all this 'free' food - or do you restrict hog hunts to certain times of the year?
