Central Texas received between 1"-3" of snow on Valentines morning. This was the most snow since 1985! Lee county was on the end of the snow line with about 1/2 inch. This is our first snow since we bought the place 8 years ago. By noon it was all gone. Anyone else have snow south of Austin?

Man that is a tough one. My in-laws are visiting in Keller Texas right now and the 3" of snow shut the airport down DFW. They ended up on a flight about 12 hours later than the original.

Weird

I was on tech support last week with an engineer from Mesquite TX and he was whining about it being cold. I told him if he doesn’t fix our issue pretty quick, he was going to find out what cold is!!! I am already well within my rights to escalate the issue to a call out. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
He still hasn't got us fixed up yet, but I think I'll wait until we dip back in to the single digits with some snow and wind. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I am so darn jealous of those who get to live in the great state (home of Lance Armstrong!!!). If I thought I could land a telecom job in the current job market, I'd be packing...

I miss the warm weather, friendly people, phenomenal barbeque (usually served in an old shack on the side of the road), cold beer, wide open skies, cars without rust, and on and on and on…

Then Dallas Morning News this morning says the Dallas area got 3 to 6" and that Grapevine (about 2 miles from me) got 5.5". I didn't think we got quite that much, but it's nearly all gone now.

We got about 4" at the house - about 100 miles east of Dallas. I was going to post a photo but I didn't think 4" of snow would impress our northern members. Just remember, it's all relative. It's supposed to be back up in the 50's and low 60's in a couple of days. How does that make some of you guys feel????

Our biggest problem in Northeast Ohio isn't snow it's ice. We have been clobbered with several big ice storms and our weather hasn't moderated enough that we can get rid of it so it continues to accumulate. The main roads are no problem but private drives are a real mess. Right now anyone with a truck load of salt is sitting on a gold mine since all the ice has made salt practically nonexistent. I have seen guys throwing water softener salt pellets on their drives hoping for some relief. Texas please send salt! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Don, I'm not south of Austin, but I did something for the first time and maybe the last time. I plowed snow out of my driveway. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif It would have melted away in a few hours too, but I had to try it just to see if I could. For the 4-1/2" we had, the FEL worked great. Here's a picture.

I also got a picture of my lake and pond in the snow. By sundown, it was completely gone. Just about the perfect snow storm in my book. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We have a build up of ice on our drive. In some areas the ice was 3-4 inches thick. I fired up the dozer and got rid of some of it or I think we would have had ice until spring. Had to take a pinch bar to bust up the ice on a sidewalk I couldn't get equipment onto. Like you said the main roads are clear and the secondary roads are improving. I guess I am ready to battle the next storm, I just hope it is snow and not more ice. Maybe we will get lucky and get a Texas snow /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif.

Due to all the ice I found a new use for a box scraper. Set it up on about a 30 degree angle and teeth full down and rip the ice up. I would not recommend this procedure on anything but gravel drives though. With 1500 feet of 6 inch ice you have to get pretty crazy to get the use of your drive back.

JimI, Yeah, I was thinking of getting the tractor out also for a once a decade photo op but it was already 32 degrees and I had to walk around the place to admire the scenery before it started to melt. beautiful pond and lake you have there. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What do you guys think, should we send some of this ice down to Jim in Texas so he will have something to go with that 3 inches of snow he's pushing? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for the nice compliments Tom and Don. I'm awfully fond of my place and constantly surprised at all the natural beauty and wildlife I'm so lucky to have. I like your picture too, Don. The contrast of the cactus in the snow is an accurate icon for Texas weather. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

To all the guys who want to ship us some of their ice storm, I just want to say, "No thanks!." I think ice storms are the most destructive types of winter storms. They normally cover a much larger area than even tornados. Three years ago, there were thousands of old trees destroyed here when we had an ice storm so bad that all the limbs collapsed around the trunks of the trees. I drove around with tears in my eyes just seeing so many stately old trees that had to be cut down. I hate ice storms and all the guys experiencing them have my sympathy.

Frank, I didn't just have fun, I had lots of fun. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Of course, if I had to repeat the process, tomorrow, and the next day, and on and on... I might get tired of it pretty quickly. For one day though, it was great fun. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Frank, it's just 35 right now, supposed to get into the 50s today, and the high for the next three days is forecast to be in the high 60s. My brother sent me an e-mail to say we've got tee times of 10 a.m. Wednesday. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

That's right Bird, rub it in. Those guys laugh at us when we're working outside in 100 degree weather during the summer or, what's worse, when I'm in that old Massey with a cab and no air conditioner. I swear that mobile greenhouse is 130 degrees for most of the summer.

( a cab and no air conditioner )

Now that's a bad combination. My hay farmer neighbor who had 3 air-conditioned tractors told me there were just two problems with owning cab tractors: (1) it seemed so bad when he had to get out of that air-conditioned cab to work on the haybine, baler, or whatever, and (2) when the air-conditioner quit, he had to quit, too. He said even with the doors open, no way he could stay in there with the sun shining through that glass.
