I know it is common knowledge that JD 303 is the hydro-trans fluid of choice. My question to the old heads is, what is the difference between the TF300 and the TF500 that two different tractors I have says to use in their transmissions. There has to be some difference. I know that when I change the original red fluid out and replace it with JD 303 the pump gets noisier when cold. I had a Hinomoto that would have ghost movements in the three point lift until it got warmed up. It would not do it with the original fluid. If the answer I need is back at the old group just say so and I'll go back and wait to get on and look for it.

That's a good question. Of coures JD303 is a oil spec. I don't know what TF300 & 500 are. Are either 303 compatible? I have been reading the Oil,Fuel & Lubricants forum. People over there are big on synthetics. The synthetics are suposer to cure the exact problems you mention. I wonder if there is a synthetic Hy/tran fluid that would be good for us.

The TF 300 and TF 500 are on decals located by the trans fill and check plug on my Grey Yanmars. I have had super luck with synthetic engine oils. I have not tried any in transmissions.
