Good choice. :) After looking for several months, I came across a 336D also, with FEL Yanmar 1500, Woods BH750 Backhoe and gannon with hydrualic rippers. All the things I needed. It was not pretty looking, as it had been left outdoors in Ca. being weather beaten and the front of the hood was dented in. Says the previous owner put the FEL down with the hood up. Anyway, he had it listed at $9595.00 but after a couple of weeks I was able to talk him to $8250.00 and let him keep if for a couple of months to do some dirt moving at his place.
He also had a Landpride post hole digger he offered at $500.00 but couldn't justify it right now. I looked over all the features it had and was amazed how far ahead of other tractors it was at the time. Plan on taking it to Washington state where I have bought property to retire on. Just got the service manual from Danny at Parker Equipment Company in Alabama and his shipping price was real reasonable plus had some good advice on this model.
The only thing missing, I wish I had was the ROPS. Said the originall owner didn't have it when he bought it from him. Will look into having one made, as they are very rare and one replacement I found was going to be almost $800 to $900. I know that it won't be certified but will have to do some research before I do it.
Enjoy.:D

Buy the ROPS.(if certified) $800.00-$900.00 is cheap life insurance. That's about what I paid for my ROPS

Ken that's about right, depending on the shipping ($900 would be the very high end within the 48 states).

Read this before having one built; it's from the NIOSH site. Rollover Death

The ROPS was plenty strong....but the attachment points were not adequately engineered, and the rear housing broke away, making the ROPS ineffective. This is why the engineering/testing for each model of these ROPS ran around $10,000 before they could be OSHA certified.

lmtc, Thanks for the link. This is of course just one incident report of way too many with similar results. Still, there are lots of people who laugh at ROPS, refuse to erect their folding ones, or happily point out that grand dad didn't have one and used a tractor for decades.

One of my "enlightened" acquaintances has a tractor with ROPS and recently commented as to how he was going to take it off because it hit on low branches. Another couple I know have a small Kubota, sans ROPS, and when I suggested getting one they said it already had problems mowing under trees.

My wife and I were at a auto glass place to get a new windshield and the adjacent business was a tractor repair shop. They were unloading a tractor from a trailer, backing it off very slowly in a low gear. They overlooked one tie down chain and when the chain went tight the tractor immediately flipped over backwards 180 degrees pinning the driver to the pavement under the steering wheel.

The ambulance got there as if it had been called in advance it arrived so quickly. They put the driver on a back board and put a cervical collar on him and transported him. I don't know the extent of his injuries but I would have given him at best a 50/50 chance to make it to the hospital. He was pretty severely crushed. These guys worked on tractors every day. "Familiarity breeds contempt." Doing it every day doesn't make it less dangerous.

Oh man, how gruesome. I suspect you will never be caught without a ROPS.

I've seen some very, very close calls loading and unloading. Even with a ROPS there are limitations to one's safety, but without one, well...... If branches interfere, trim the tree. I usually go around my mowing perimeter each year with one or more of my sons, a limb-trimmer, bow saw, etc. and fix such things.

We have wanted ROPS for these tractors from early on, but never had the $$ to pursue the project. I was very happy when someone else did so. If there is an OSHA approved ROPS available for a given unit, we will not sell the tractor without a ROPS being on it. When these became available, we offered them to our previous tractor customers at cost....that offer still stands. The ROPS are a committment for us. Same reason all our units come with an overrunning coupler...these tractors need one with any rotary cutter, most people use a rotary cutter, so why nickel and dime it over someone's safety?
