I ran equipment most of my working life and can assure you the only way to become proficient on any machine is time in the seat and give a dam. For some it is easier than others because so many things come into play such as, sense of balance, vision, and patience. An old hand makes it look easy but I can assure you that at the end of the day he is worn out because it is work, even though it's rewarding work, since you are accomplishing something you can see.

TS, Thanks... Solid advice... I tend to have the angle of my loader a little to steep at the start and it digs or bites in.. I then try to correct it and level it out but always seem to leave a little bump at the start. Basically biting off more than I can chew at the start.

The FEL has a sharks tooth on it that allows for back dragging.. The sales man was talking it up and this being my first tractor it didnt really make a lot of sense until i started tooling around on TLB.. man is that useful.. If I mess up the attempted flat job really bad the first pass... I just try to smooth it out on the way back.

No box blade yet... Still holding out for my first attachment... You never forget your first..

JM... Very true.. seat time is key.. although it does feel like some video game controls at times with all of the levers and backhoe arms moving when trying to dump dirt in a cart... Plus the smoother the operation the more work you get done.

Still surprised how much dirt, rock and large stumps my little L39 moves each load and over a long day in the saddle.

Don't get discouraged, as mentioned time in the seat and desire are what it takes to gt you there. Even if someone shows you right there on the spot, it takes time to master.

It's always amazing how what goes on in your head ends up matching reality. I too assumed you could do all this stuff with a loader until TBN & owning my first machine. I now see the wisdom of TnT & a box blade. I barely if ever even use my loader on lots of driveway jobs. It just works an order of magnitude better than the loader for grading.

Yeah, I should have mentioned, with my BB, I have top, but haven't bought the tilt cylinder yet, so I'm still manually tilting and in that case, still find it easier to start the grade in the direction I want with my loader (with tooth bar). I need to buy another cylinder and then I totally agree that the BB is all the way around a great tool to use for leveling. I usually use it exclusively to get the final smoothing done, etc. But with hydraulic tilt, it would no doubt be much more useful to me.
