Some people find a wide range in flavor from young to old.. to me, game meat is game meat. I find more difference in deer in rut than not in rut.

I expect wild meat to taste gamey vs public pork, beef, turkey.. etc.

Of course when growing up, if we had steak for dinner, that meant deer.

Studies have shown that hogs cannot be eradicated, only controlled.
I don't recall, exactly, the numbers now, but they are something like the following.

To control one must remove 80% of the total number of hogs, annually.
shooting leads to 10% removal
dog hunting leads to 20% removal
trapping in a "box trap" leads to 20% at most
using a large round trap, carefully patterning the sounder for numerous days before can lead to 75% reduction
aerial shooting up to 80% reduction
poison is 90 to 100% effective

If you remove 80% in one year, the remaining sows will have multiple litters a year and larger litters, thus repopulating the area to approximately original numbers within one year!
Its a long and never ending process, barely controllable if you do it right...most people don't do it right.

These people have made a serious study of doing it right...fyi...I have no connection with them at all.
