Yeehaw!
Well, except for that nasty little yearly rental fee I have to pay the government just to keep my own land.
Still, all 40 acres and the house are paid off. Now I'm just working for retirement.

Congratulations!!!!

I think that was the biggest life change for me, when I paid off my land and became debt free. The burdon of making that monthly payment really does weigh on you, and when it's removed, your outlook on life completely changes.

I don't stress over money anymore since I only need a very small amount to survive. Anything that I make over that minimum is "play" money.

Again, Congratulations!!! Your life just changed in a wonderful way.

I was with Eddie, but the state of Tax-consin has tripled the property tax on our house and 10x'ed my land over the past 10 years. May have to sell as it's costing 1000 a month just to own. :(

John bud, is there any means of putting your land in a "current use" program? Mine is paid for too, but taxes keep going up. I put ten acres in current use, and that gave me a credit of many thousand of dollars off my assessment. In NH, you need to have a minimum of 10 acres that you can put in.

To the OP...... Congratulations! It takes a lot of work to pay off land these days, and a lot of desire to stick with it.

Congratulations on paying off the land. The orignal owner of the land, when we had titles, was the federal government, who deeded it to the states, who deeded to an individual subject to eternal stipulations.

You aren't really the owner, but the caretaker for a few years, so make the most of it.

My next major goal is also retirement - in my case in 5 weeks!!:D

It's good to have a date for retire. Mine is xmas 4 years away. I have decided that I don't want to be in forced employment on my 60th.

It is a great feeling knowing that you own (caretake) your land. We have managed to pay for our city home and rural retreat. I keep working although it confuses my work mates who wonder why not sell up and retire comfortably. My answer is that I want to retire and use the rural retreat!! If I sell it, there is no point in retiring!!

To those who are able to enjoy their lifestyle, I wish all a safe and prosperous life.
