Wow, what an accomplishment. I sincerely hope you're blessed with good health for many more years so you can enjoy what you worked so hard for. I still have 10-15 years of payments, but I do know that there is a light at the end of my tunnel, and I'm going after it. It's just a real long tunnel.
All my best wishes and congratulations.
Pat

I know the feeling, it feels great. I paid off everything I owed back in 1986 when I got some seperation pay from the company I worked for that shut down. Since them I've banked what the payments were and been able to pay cash for everything. It's a great feeling!

40 Acre Mule-

Congratulations! I know the feeling - I am quite blessed in that my own 40 acres (with small lake) is paid off, and I was able to retire at age 52.

You now have a level of security enjoyed by few - the freedom of financial worry. The rest of the world can fall apart, but you will always have your place (just keep paying the taxes!).

I cannot argue that taxes don't stink and they are going up way too fast, but how many of us get involved enough to stop our local governments from spending so much.

I don't like paying someone for the land I own outright, but the fact that the roads that get me there and the schools that my kids attend work pretty well, I cannot complain too much. There are a ton of things I think they waste money on, but since I am not spending time trying to change things, I cannot complain.

Stay healthy until retirement so you can enjoy it!

Congratulations!

You are living the American dream now.

As for taxes, sorry CPA's and employees of the IRS, there should be no taxes other than sales tax. Period.

:D May I humbly offer a suggestion about this thing we call "retirement"?
It is an artificial idea. What I mean is, why just shut down my life and interests and close myself away in my cave? This is a beautiful opportunity to start to serve others in so many ways! Consider going on a mission trip, or starting to volunteer through church or the community. Now that you are (mostly) free from financial worries, turn your vision outwards, not inwards. And if you have 40 acres, or 20 or whatever, consider how it can be used to share with others, not just as a retreat. When you die, all the toys go back in the box, and someone else gets tto play with them!

That is incredible for this day and age considering the economic outlook. Well done. Very well done.

Now sit back and enjoy it for a while. Well deserved I am sure.

Stated very well. I still have to laugh when I get the telemarketing call (which I'm not supposed to get - but that's another story) with the person telling me how they can consolidate all of my debts and help me get out of debt faster. Do you know what they say when I tell them that I have no debt? They try to get me to borrow money anyway!! The heck! After a person works so long to become debt free, I don't know many who want to jump back into debt.

Congratulations to all who have paid off all their debt. I have several friends and relatives who have no thought of ever paying things off. They just consider making payments their entire life as "normal". In their mind, when something ever gets paid off, it's time to get another something.
