In October of 2009, I set the objective of ridding my farm of Chinese privet. To that end, I have been clearing privet with my chainsaw and brush cutter, treating the larger cut stumps with undiluted glyphosate (41%), and spraying younger privet with a 1.5% solution of 41% glyphosate.

Based on my estimate of the privet population, I had calculated that I would meet my objective when I am 103 years of age if I maintain my current rate of progress.:) At that time, I would spray to destroy any new growth from seeds deposited by birds or washed onto the banks of the two streams on the farm.

I now have to redo my calculations -- the pestilence can grow in tree forks.

You do realize that the Chinese Privet are the spawn of pallets, be afraid, very afraid :). Good luck on the eradication.

You must include in-situ power washing of all tree forks in your eradication planning.

Make certain you are working Nov. 2nd because you will gain an hour on the privet.

The solution is to live forever. That's what it will take to finish all my projects!

can ya run a chain saw around the bark and make a few rings, (not actually cutting it down, but just destroying the bark)?

have some ugly bushes here, cut them down to the ground, spray the stump and they still come back up :/

Become a "goat guy". Privet is better known as goat "candy".....The only thing they love more is kudzu.........God bless.......Dennis

I think goats can be useful. I used to have a lot of poison ivy, then the goats came, and they ate it all up. Strange to see them eat poison ivy, but they ate it down to the ground.
