... Why do i do it? It is a neighborly thing. I like helping out with that kinda stuff and being young, love to learn how to fix it.:)

So how far is it from your house to mine? Maybe I could pay you mileage :)

I started this thread (for some unknown reason) just to say that for once my BX wasn't broken. Just a little pebble in the wrong place.

Naturally, when I went to load it on the trailer this morning, I discovered the flat rear tire. The 2nd rotten valve stem in two years. :smiley_aafz:

Sounds like the experience I get with my tiller. When ever i use it I break it. :( But after fixing it about 6 or 7 times now, I have successfully used it twice both yesterday and Saturday and it did not break! :D Now I am very happy to have it.:cool: Lets see, with your BX, watch the fuel filter under the operator platform, my neighbor's BX24 had a plugged filter and ran very poorly because of it. So i went out and got him a filter, replaced it for him, runs like a top. His hydro fan has no blades on it and i offered to replace that but he is a little leery of letting his 15 year old neighbor take apart his $15k tractor. Why do i do it? it kinda looks like the rubber boot on the DS is torn too!

I cant say I am surprized. Last time i used it it had 2 flat front tires. :confused2: He tried to fill them with air but they had bad valve stems. :(

I think it is a little ways away, but if I were closer i would love to. I always love working on machinery, it is a lot of fun. :)

I think the BX tires are a little on the fragile side...

After having several rear flats spoil my weekend plans... I had them foam filled... it was worth it to never have to worry and improved my backhoe efficiency and overall stability. Not sure if the benefits apply to dedicated mowing.

My fronts were always loosing air... I Slimed them and the air loss stopped. Last weekend the right front developed a bubble that eventually let go.

A couple of years ago, I bought a spare set of tires and glad I did.

Along the same lines as your pebble I had a stick that got wedged just right in the HST pedal linkage while working in the woods. The only difference was that the stick prevented the pedal from returning to neutral and made the tractor keep moving forward at a slow but steady pace. I shut off the machine in a real hurry when I realized something was wrong. After a short search I found the stick that acted like a very effective spring.

Edit: The tractor is a B7800 in my case

Valve stems seam to be a real problem, not just with tractors. Every tire shop now replaces them regardless of their shape. For most cars around here that's twice a year, once in the fall when the winter tires go on and once in the spring when they come off. I asked and they said it was cheaper than dealing with the number of people coming back with tires going flat. Maybe they are all being made by the cheapest supplier in China or something.

Ya reckon......

Same here... never had stem problems till the last few years...

I went to metal stems for my trailers.

Let's see: 1994 (or so) Deere 425: original valve stems. 1998 Suburban: original. 1991 Porsche: original. 2006 Silverado: original. 1999 EZ Loader trailer: original. For that matter, 1990 Honda tiller: original.

Kubota BX 24: two failures in two years. I don't like the trend here. Not to mention, a tractor flat far from home, and way out in the weeds is *ing inconvenient. Fortunately, there was still enough air in the tire that I could (just) get it back on the trailer.

Free, quick on-trailer repair by Les Schwab, so that's the good news.
