I agree about the 5103. It does have a good amount of plastic for looking so "old timey." The post about the screen may have been mine. You are right...they sell only the complete panel. Very annoying. Plastic and steel both have their pros and cons. It just depends on what you want.

At the time, he was the only game anywhere near us. I still believe that is the case today. But I haven't really checked. The whole John Deere shopping experience left a sour taste in my mouth that has lasted over 3 tractors and 25 years.

I've spent a lot of time hayin' with John Deeres. We have two friends that have a brand new 4100 and a 4110. I really like John Deere, but I guess you only get one chance to make a first impression. Deere wasn't very willing to work with us 25 or so years ago (both regional and local). Until I get an apology, I won't be buying green. I'm more stubborn then those poor mules hooked to their plows. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This isn't a new question. I first heard it voiced over 10 years ago, when a farmer said "This import will outlive any of the John Deeres and Kubotas, I hate those infernal electronics."

I'm not sure if his Belarus is still running; you don't see many any more. The dealer he bought it from is now running a bottle redemption and paper recycling center.

Four legged farm tractors (they aren't implements, they pull implements) have some great benefits. They don't compact the ground like a heavy tractor, the fertilize as the work and they like to take breaks so you can take a break too. They will share your lunch with you if you have an apple. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you are looking for a utility tractor take a look a Zetor. Everything you need and nothing you don't, "Just what you need" very reasonable priced parts and easy to work on.

Your not alone. When I was shopp'n for a Subcut no less than 3 different JD dealers treated me like they could do without my business, like I was wasteing their time. One even said they didn't want to mess with no little tractors.....
The 4th JD dealer let me haggle with a mechanic which meant he was running back and forth to get answers from the man who should have just come on out of his office and did his job.
If presales was this bad then I knew I didn't want nothing to do with post JD sales...... It was a waste of MY TIME!
Oh well, I went Kubota also and won't do any business w/ these dealer's unless they too change ownership.
I'm in the service industry also and I can't afford to treat my small product buyers like they're wasteing my time.
One thing good came out of it though, I'm highly impressed with the Kubota product....

I think a certain amount of electronics will be mandated by more stringent EPA standards. They are going to have to come up with some sophisticated fuel management systems in the future to appease everyone.

"Why is LG getting into the tractor market? LG for goodness sake? Will Colt and Remington be next? What is happening is that manufacturers have spotted the fact that they can stamp out some plastic for pennies, not worry about testing in the field, since the modern mentality is to use then trade up for a new one, that people are moving to the country, that everyone wants a tractor, that for the next few years people will still be willing to borrow their lives away for a new shiny one and that the same sales points that work for autos will work for tractors. Why is it that you have to search for a good gear tractor when most of the salesman want to sell you a hydro?".............. <font color="yellow"> </font> <font color="yellow"> </font> Andrewj, I suppose LG makes tractors to diversify their business. Maybe you have heard of Mitsubishi? They make pretty good tractors, heavy equipment and the big screen TV I'm gonna watch the Superbowl on.
