The demise of the rear wheel drive/Police intercep

Yeah, that's my '64 T-bird in the garage. We bought it as a project car and is a nice 20 footer. I actually prefer driving the T-bird as you put it in gear and go. The Vette with its close ratio, heavy clutch, no power steering requires a bit more effort but that side pipe sound makes up for it all!!! No mufflers on a big block...it don't get no better!!! How did GM ever get that past the Feds? My brakes are currently gone on the Bird...I blew a rubber line to the front drivers side. Pretty scarry on a car with only a single resivoir master cylinder. It did give me plenty of warning that something wasn't quite right though. I'll see if I can get it out of the garage and snap a picture (blurry as they are) and post it. We just moved to SC from Tucson AZ and I sure miss the old car action out there. There would be a car show at least every other week and you can't believe all of the old cars people drive around out there. Miss it bad!

I can see why, Hillbilly- that's one of the best cars ever built, IMHO. That was when the Pontiac guys truly were "building excitement"- so much so that GM felt they had to be put down, lest they challenge the Corvette. It's a shame.

HillBilly, Pontiac did come with a 3x2 barrel setup back then. dodge also came out with their version in the Plymouth Challengers and some Scamps called the 'six-pack' but that was a couple years later. AMC came out with the SC/Ramblers which was the 'American' body style with the 343ci or 390 ci high perf. engines and 4 speeds. (Also the AMX - a stubby 2 seat Javalin) Fords had the Mustang Cobra's derived from Carroll Shelby's modifications.
ALL the manufacturers produced some mighty fine muscle cars in that era! Competition was breeding better and better performance vehicles every year. A hot-rodders dream!

Can't get the remaining two to work, I'll give it another shot later.

Thanks! My aunt and uncle had a '64 coupe. As a kid, I was always fascinated by the steering wheel/column that slid out of the way. The seat swivels also, doesn't it?

My car does not have swivel seats and as far as I know, no T-birds did. I know I have never seen one anyway in our club which all of the major model years were represented. I do remember that option and I think it was on the Lincoln. Someone else may know more than I on this subject.

I know I'm just prejudice, but I think this era of T-bird was one of the finest cars built from a pure styling standpoint. They look like they are in motion while standing still. Oh, and if anyone else has problems with pictures, they were just too large to work.
