The end of "seat time"?

Oh my, when I first looked at that thumbnail I thought, (and I could be forgiven considering we are discussing seat time) I really did think it was a big purple saddle! Oh how I wish I hadn't looked at that picture. It is now ingrained in my mind for perpetuity. aaargh!

All of the farm equipment I operated was before CABS; let alone radio and A/C. Automated tractors and farm equipment may be the wave of the future for the corporate farmer, but being retired, nothing will take the place of my X350 on my acreage...and nothing can replace the seat time to calm the wild breast, solve life's little trials and tribulations and fend of life's slings and arrows. Which brings up another thought:

If you have, or ever have had, an administrative or supervisory position, you will probably recognize what I'm talking about. It's one thing to spend every day, week , month and year doing work that provides little immediate satisfaction and maybe results cannot be seen for months or years. When you plow a field or put up hay, you can see the job ahead of you, you can see your progress, and you can see what you have accomplished and take some satisfaction. Before my retirement, there were a couple years there when spending a week end and evenings in the yard and garden was my way of being in control, doing a job and taking some pride in its completion.

:drink: I literally just came back from buying a new Kubota tractor this afternoon. Salesman tried his best to get me into a cabbed tractor. No way, I said. I spend enough time indoors on construction sites; when I'm on my farm I want the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. If I want creature comforts I'll drive around the farm in my truck.

Well...here's a thought. There's something we all have to doo every day. Arms are only just so long. So reaching around...you get the picture

Now I have to gouge my eyes out.
There was a man of similar size that used to run around town on a Vespa scooter.

I cringed when I got stuck behind him in traffic. It looked like a tail light and tire were sticking out of his rear

If you mentioned getting stuck behind the scooter man, anyone in town knew who you were talking about.
