The Frustrations Of Rural Internet AND Netflix

Yes they are I use mine for the most part as a digital receiver for my MARS nets! Has a better receiver than my Kenwood 590 for this! Can tune from 1kz to 2ghz!! Would be a great shortwave receiver!

DC to Daylight. :)

A BOX full of Birdies! lol Isn't that one of the things on the days of Christmas song?

I bought this broadband Kenwood Mobile receiver years ago. It's the most useless POS! I took it on our road trip to MN earlier this spring to listen to truckers. Even with a Larsen mag mount, not a one! Just a lot of internal noise. I was watching the road sides for a garage sale where I might find a cheap CBR, but I guess it was too early in the year.

I have been thinking about a SW radio for fun, what would you recommend for the best choices, even if vintage?
I would suggest the RSP1A an SDR radio that runs with your PC USB cable and antenna is all that is required $119

Well, I got my new ISP yesterday, and kicked Explornet to the curb today. In typical fashion, they want to work with me and even lower my cost. Too late. I told them I wanted reliable Internet over Christmas.

Hopefully it works a bit better for ya.

Many of us remember the days when all bits were created equal and not throttled, sadly those days are past us now. Many ISPs want to double dip on peering connection and on the consumer side as well.

That said you still get the occasional community internet like on Orcas Island( How a group of neighbors created their own Internet service | Ars Technica ) one can only hope that in the more rural areas this is a trend that continues.

consider going "state of the art". SDR is where it is at. Skip the last 100 years, and start fresh. Pretty cheap too.

RSP1A – SDRplay

I feel impelled to warn those that are thinking about learning more about radio and experimenting with it. If you mess with it long enough you will be bitten by the bug, and then there is not much hope for you. :) As far as I know the thirst for more knowledge and "bigger and better" is incurable. :D I have had the "disease" since childhood, and I haven't been able to shake it. It died down some when I was getting a family settled in and all, but it always seems to return with more virulence than before. Good luck on your journey

Can't beat it for the price I wouldn't recommend this model in an RF environment but for SW can't best it
