The good and bad about Brands - Hopefully!

Thanks everyone. I'm going to take mwood's advice and check out the three tractors I like. I've looked at the GT325 as the perfect tractor for me, but will also look at the Cub GT2550. I know very little about Kubota, will try to find what's comparable for them. I do know one of my local JD dealers carries all three and flat out said JD was the best (and also the most expensive!!). I'll be back, don't know how soon since I've got about 30 other things to do around here /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. But I'll definitely be back. Thanks again.

I will say this - If I bought based on web sites, JD would win hands down. There's so much info there it's hard to take it all in. Cub's and Kubota's sites pale in comparison!

Take this and the dealers statement with a grain of salt. To often the salesman will want you to buy the one that he makes the most profit on. Especially if all other things are equal, which one do you think he'd push? The one that makes him the bucks .....afterall thats why he's there.

Sit in as many seats as you can and try em out. The ergonomics of each is different. You'll know when you sit on the one that fits you best or feels the most comfortable.

There is no magic rule of thumb. It depends on the budgeted price, size of lawn, additional tasks required (tilling, snow removal, etc), comfort of operator (leg room, etc), slopes and hills, and what the dealer's service area looks like. For some folks, the Craftsman GT5000 is a great choice with 54" deck, for others, the Snapper rear engine rider with 30" deck is a better choice. A case can be made for almost any brand and model available in the market as to it being the best choice for someone.

Don't forget Wheel Horse.
I have 2 Wheel Horse garden tractors. 1 is 25 years old the other is over 20 and they are both still going strong.
Great little tractors..

My oldest Wheel Horse is a 1980 C-101. I bought this tractor used ( 6 years old) in 1986 for $1000. I have owned it for 19 years and it still works great.

Dad has a 1979 C-111. The aluminum briggs still ran but when he moved to SC it didn't have enough nut. So he shopped tractors for months and couldn't find anything he liked better without paying alot of $ So he put a big briggs twin in his.

I wrote a post few months back on how I had tortured dad's machine as a teenager. Never broke it. I'll have to look for it.
