The Government Has Banned Ephedra

To me, alcohol should have been targeted instead of tobacco. Now don't get me wrong, I drink now and again. I quit smoking 4 years ago. The problem is one can smoke a pack, or even a carton of cigarettes, get behind the wheel and drive fine.

To each his own, but my arguement with Tobacco and Alcohol doesn't even come into the driving or mental state stuff. To me its simple. The long term medical costs that we all bear as a result of some irresponsible smoker or drinker hurts all around. A smoker can disolve with cancer for years and be in and out of the hospital again and again. Drinkers can go the same route.

Now I'm not one to preach since I'm a bit larger than my Doc would like. Most likely, when its my time, I'll tip and go, no long costly checkout. That's my family tradition /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I news show did a bit on herbs last yr I think and what they did was buy some common products and test them for actual amounts of the herb listed on the bottle.
Most were short by about 10% of what they claimed, some worse. What bothers me is they did not if I recall correctly test to see what was used as a substitute...

I preffer natural if I know the source is reliable. such as growing it yourself I used to know many that did. This unfortunatley is not something most of us know how or have the time to do so we have to trust others or do without.

I am fortunate in about the only thing I can claim being alergic to is WORK.... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
But if these things are not well regulated alergies alone could hurt some one.

As for medications I hate taking them as much as the next person but will if I have to. Especially the new supperbiotics...YUK just give me amoxicillin and send me home....

AS for other drugs Alcohol and nicotine pro-abition doesn't work if it did it would still be in full effect today. It still has yet to stop pot and crack and herion use after how many decades? I'm not saying making it all legal would help either mind you. I doubt there is a good answer there or we would have heard it already.

But people know tobaco and alcohol are bad and like many of use we still use one or both. So we pay the higher tax's to get them.

Me I traded my cowboy habit years ago for my DR Pepper habit, but I kept the few Guiness or Killins now and again habit.

Darned; and here I was thinking of reports the said some red wine in moderation would decrease the tip and go situation.

It is interesting that it is now illegal to by drugs in Canada as they can't verify the quality of the drugs comming BACK into the US. We all know that Canadians are well known for taking the pills out of the boxes disolving them, contaminating them with somthing, making pills again and reselling them to an unsuspecting US market.

The drug companies have a lot of explaining to do!

Many herbs have very real and dramatic effects when ingested. But we all know if a little is good a lot is much better. Heck I could weigh in a 100 lb by the morning if I take a 100 of these little pills and still have my hambuger and 100 oz bladder buster to boot!

There is a bill in the house (probably not likely to pass) that would ban basically all herbal supplements and vitamins. There is a faction in Congress that has been trying to get this legislation passed since the early 90s.

This is all about money, all about the pharmaceutical manufacturers getting the legislation they are paying for. I'll sure be glad when people put their foot down about it. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Actually, it was heart problems and taking more than the prescribed dose.
With ephedra, I'm sure folks are taking 2, 3 5 times the recommended dosage.
Cowboydoc, what is the medicine world's (AMJ) take on ephedra?

If I'm not mistaken, Ephedra and Ephedrine are the same drug? A lot of the dopies around here are making crank with it. I heard you had to sign for it and are allowed just so many.

Of course the dopies make crank out of about anything these days.

I'm staying out of this one, LOL. Ephedra was dangerous in taking large amounts. It does cause the heart to race and can cause numerous heart problems. It's like drinking way too much coffee x 100. But alot of things are dangerous in large amounts. As far as vitamins and herbs. Well prescriptions kill tens of thousands more people. There are actually very, very few deaths related to vitamins and herbs. But this thread is getting pretty political and this issue, as most of you know, is completely about politics and control. Probably best to let this one die.
